Daventry and District Sports Trust Report of the Trustees Continued For the year ended 30 April 2024 Chair's report Significant achievements The Trustoes have met on a regular monthly basls to consider the financial position of the Trust and lo deal with the managemenl Issues which have arisen during the financial year. There have been a number of changes irs Trustees during the year with ￿SIgnationS for personal reasons of Stephanie Jane Russell. Russ Robinson and Christopher John Hallwood and the appointment of Derek Owen Williams and Anthony John Baker. The outgoing Trustees were thanked for their services to the Trust. The facilities on the site currently comprise 3 Rugby Pitches, 5 squash Courts, an outdoor Bowling Green, 8 400m Athl8tics track together with field sports areas, field Archery tsrgels, Changing rooms and kn licensed Clubhouses. The Table Tennis Club makes use of ￿ of the Squash CDUrts on a weekly basis for its club purposes. The condition of the car park continues lo give concem to the Trustees. Temporary remedial works have been carried out on occasion by West Northamptonshire Council, bul much to the frustration of the Trustees, the member clubs and the visiting members of the public using the facilities, no prog￿$$ had been made between th8 Council and Its conlr2Ctors in the dispute as to who was responsible for the defects in the car park's construction. The delerioraling stale of the ear park is of parb'cular concern to Reach lor Health. whose premises are situated on the site and uses the Gar park not only for parking, but also as its only means of access lo its premises. Many of its members and vistors suffer from physical difficulties and require wheelchair 8c¢ess. The Trustees have continued to press the Council for a p8rmanenl solution given th6 ¢on¢9ms ¢)n safety issues. The premlses have been used during the year for private functions and D8vfest 23 { a music fesllv81 held in July) was very suc￿ssful and the organisers intend lo retum with a bigger festival in July 2024. Continued improvements to the two Clubhous68 have resulted in increasèd use by outside organisalions and for private parties with the consequent uplrft in the financial income. The sports clubs using the facilili8s hav8 recovered from tho Covid lock downs and during the period of this report have continued lo ba In good health and in lolal there are some 600 plus members who use the facilities on a regular basis. of whom approximately 260 are juniors and membership numbers have been on the increase generally. The numb&r of users of the facility is boosted by visiting leams, hirerslusers of the Athlet1¢ track and third-paty users of the two Clubhouse facilities for social advilles. The two Clubhouses continue to provide excellent venues for social aclivites for local p80ple, hosting many communily activities and the member clubs also provide opportunities tor local people lo volunteer lo assist with and be involved in sporting activities in Davenlry. The Squash Club continues to grow its memb8rship numb8rs and has over 130 members, all playing the Sport regulary. The Squash Club's committee has a solid plan to grow the membership further in 2024125 as well as lo improve the facilities. The club has continued to host the Northamplonshire County Championships for both squash and rackelball. As an 8ffilialed club lo England Squash. the venu8 is now regularly being selected to hold sanctioned competitions lor both juniors and 8dull8. 11 has been another truly remarkable season for th8 Rugby Club:_ The 1$1 XV won their league, having lost only one le8gue fixture in kn seasons ar￿ gaining promO￿On to Regional 2 of the RFU leagues. This is the highest league achievem8nl in the Club's history. They also retained the Northants Allian¢fj Pag9t Cup and had an excellent run in the L.ews Shield. narrO￿Y being beaten in the final at Franklin Gardens by Olney. The 2nd XV won their league in Warwickshire 7. They also made il lo a cup final, represenllng the Club in the Clonmell Cup and narrowly being beaten by Lullerworth in a very light game. The 3rd XV 8180 had a great season. wning the Warwi¢kshire 2A league tille in the first half of the season and narrowly m¢sslng out on winning league 28 in the second half of the season. Tho 4th XV conllnued to offer tho great social aspect for the Club and welcomed players of all abilities and conlinues to forge rugby bonds across the region. The Club put out an academy side during the season { first lime in 4 years ) and will be looking to malntaln 51 for the upcoming season with strong U16'8 that are coming through. The Mini's section of the dub has grown from 70 players to 110. Next year. we will have players from pr&sch¢Jol to year 9, so an amazing achievement in how this area has grown. The Club now has a ladies team up and running, currenuy playing touch rugby with a view lo progressing to full contact and a league structure. Away from the playing side of the Club. has been improving the facility. It has fix8d the drainage on the 1st XV pitch and also insialled a drainage system on the lop pitch, which is hoped will mean less training cancellations due lo the weather. From a management team perspective, the Club has completed a restmcluring exercise. From two years ago when we had six people, we now have a stw¢lure with over 40 volunteers in place. During the past 12 months, the membership of the Athletics Club has continued to Ine￿age steadily. The number of alhletes atterKling Tuesday and Thursday night training s8ssions throughout the year averages over 30 with 50+ attending some sessions during the summer rnonths. During the past 12 months. the Club hosted the folbwing events.. 1 x Heart of Eng18nd League match for alhleles 9-16 years olds. 1 x Youth Development League match for athletes 11-14 years old. 2 x Secondary Schools events for schools in the old South Northants area. 2of12

In addition. various local running group5 use the track on Monday and Wednesday evenings with individuals also using the facility on an occasional basis. 11 has been another successful year for the Table Tennis Club wth four League lilles awarded to the Club. This was the foundatron for a lot of acbvilies involving Members lo promote the Club across Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. Senior Members supported a lo¢al Academy by laying on After School luilion when 20 to 30 pupils regulary lumed up, some already have been filtered back into advanced tuition at the Clubhouse. These activities wera instrumental in the school being awarded a grant lo buy exensive tsble lennis equipm8nt for the fulure. The Club hosted an open day for SEND pupils when 12 schools visited the Club for a fun and games day for up to 70 of their pupils. Again, we were congratulated by visiting teachers and a couple of Head Teachers who were anxious to repeal tho day on an annual basis. The Club suffered a litue bit with major increases in costs meaning that, for the first time in its history114 years). il ran at a loss. All fees were doubled 8t the AGM to cover this scenario and things are looking slighlty better for the coming year. The Bowls Club has continued to face a difficult year due lo rising costs, coupled with competition for rnembers from a number of other Bowls clubs in the area and the need lo keep subscriptions al an affordable level for its members, many of whom are rolired. Income from the hire of the clubroom lo outside groups ha5 continued to increase with the groups mentioned in last yearfs report Continuing to meet al its premises on a regular basis. as well as the premises being available for hire for social events. The Club has also been able lo continue with its policy of upgrading essential fiems of equipment for the benefit of both Members and outside users resulting in the Club being more than a Bowling Club and continuing to enhance its role as a community asset. During the year, the Trust has continued its excellent relationship with Reach for Health la charity operating from premises on tha sile as 8 physical and mental-heallh rahabilitalion and recuperation cenlrel and has a good working relationship and synèr9y with Reach for Health. Performance The Trust's purpose is lo provlde the environmenl, facillites and support in which each of its member clubs and community acliviles can ffourish. The clubs which do nourish. are those with strong junior s¢¢lions, especially so when this strength Can be carried through into the adult teams. To a¢hieve its objeGlives the Trust aims lo.. Provide affordable sports facilities, fitnéss and leisure opportunities for IcKal paople of all ages and abilities. Encourage greal8r participation in sport. Provide opportuntigs lor local, county, regional and national events lo enable paople lo participate in and vi8w comp&lib'v8 and quality sporting events. Create a combined, shared facility and environment lo benefit each of th8 memb8r clubs which would not be possible in isolatlon. Provide a venue for loc81 groups and organisations lo use. Provlde opportunities for soci81 activities both associated with sport and for non-8POrts participants. Promote opportunties for community volunteers. Ensure th81 the Trust's activities h8v8 regard for the environment and that it operates sustainably. The Trustees believe that during the financial year 2023124. they have successfully progressed with their alms and objectivites and the Trustees look fonmard lo building on the achievements and successes of the current year during 2024125, wth the intention of extending and improving the facilities on offer lo the community for both social and sporting welfare.
