We selected charities<br>corresponding to these pillars which we will support through a range of<br>fundraising events and volunteering opportunities until the end of<br>December 2020. The charities are nominated and selected by<br>employees; the foundation is not open to requests of support on any<br>other basis until then.<br>Our charity of the year benefits from all the money raised through the HL<br>Charitable Foundation.<br>Administration and day to day communication are also done by<br>volunteers.<br>Hargreaves Lansdown meets the cost of running the HL Charitable<br>Foundation.|

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Our fund raising activities in 2019/20 have focused on events with low or no outlay (guaranteed profit) and high levels of HL colleague participation. Our partnership with our 5 charities came to an end on 1[st] September 2019. From 2[nd] September to 31[st] December we focused our fundraising efforts on our ‘season of giving’ appeal. This involved fundraising, volunteering and food / clothing / present donations for the following charities: • St Mungo’s • Fareshare • Every Child Needs Christmas 

From January 1[st] , we started our partnership with Help Bristol’s Homeless. In a departure from previous years, the HL Donation would now be delivered on a quarterly basis, as opposed to a lump sum at the end of the year. This is to allow the foundation to contribute to time bound appeals. Additionally, HL agreed to double match colleague payroll giving. Payroll giving saw a significant increase, with an increase from £211 to a high of £2,400 in the summer months. There was an increase from 23 colleagues in December 2019 to a peak of 241 in May. Furthermore, the trustees also agreed that whilst we would have a partner charity, flexibility would also be allowed to support local causes that had a specific focus and time bound campaign Help Bristol’s Homeless: As a departure from previous fundraising, we set ourselves a clear target to raise enough money to find: - A new wellbeing centre - 2 self-contained flats 

The wellbeing centre was the main focus of activity and we raised over £26,000 for this. From the left over fundraising, we are anticipating over £70,000 to be donated to Help Bristol’s Homeless which will cover the two flats. We had planned an Art Action as a large fundraising event, however, due to coronavirus, plans for this had to be put on hold. Coronavirus response: In March, Covid-19 hit and a result impacted our ability to fundraise for the HL Foundation, and our charity partner. The majority of colleagues were now working from home, and large gatherings were banned. This meant that the traditional forms of fundraising and bringing colleagues together were no longer feasible. We undertook zoom challenges, Strava challenges and a ‘Shorts for a Short week’ fundraiser, however without the visible presence of a bucket or collection jar, donations were very light. Covid also resulted in the HL Foundation utilising the new ‘flexibility’ granted to it and we launched an appeal to support local NHS charities, Above and Beyond and the Southmead Hospital Charity. The just giving page was the main source of donations, with colleagues encouraged to donate the money saved from their daily coffee, commute and new working from home allowance. Overall we donated £39,752.54 to the NHS charities as a result of our covid19 appeal. We also managed to secure a further donation from HL in response to Mental

Health Awareness Week. The theme for 2020 was ‘kindness’ and HL donated £15 per colleague to the foundation for one of the following charities. Colleagues were able to vote for where their donation went, with the following split:

## Sport 

HL colleague tournaments (e.g. netball and cricket) where HL covered most or all of the cost of the event, colleagues paid to play, and profits went to the Foundation after paying for prizes. 

- Helpdesk football tournaments – raised £250 

3rd party events where colleagues raised money for a specific HL Foundation charity, examples include: 

- Break the Cycle – raised £3818 for Bristol Sport Foundation 

Colleagues also undertook challenges to raise money for the Foundation, including cycling the distance of the Tour de France which raised £705 

The lottery 

The monthly payday lottery took a brief hiatus from March onwards due to the impact of coronavirus as we were unable to host a virtual lottery.

The reserves we have set aside provide financial stability and the means for development of our principal activity. We intend to maintain our reserves at a level which is at least equivalent to £500 to cover the cost of fundraising activities taking place in the early part of our financial year. The Board biannually reviews the amount of reserves that are required to ensure that they adequate to fulfil our continuing obligations

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 01 / 09 / 2020. 

**Responsibilities and** As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation **basis of report** of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

**Independent** I have completed my examination.  I confirm that no material matters have **examiner's statement** come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
