Registered Charity No 1167834
Annual Statement
The Old Grammar School CIO, Faversham owns and maintains a Grade Two Listed Building, built as the Original Queen Elizabeth First Grammar School in the mid 1500’s.
In circa 1887 the building was purchased by the Lodge of Harmony, and extensively Repaired and adapted for use as a Masonic Temple. This was carried out sympathetically, so that the building retained most of its original features; and character. The building is home to several Masonic Lodges and Orders, and is governed by a Board of Nine Trustees.
The building is open to the Public for at least two days a year, in conjunction with “Open Faversham” which is organised by the Faversham Society. Many other private viewings take place, and the Trustees are always willing to show this magnificent building to visitors – with great pride! Many visitors come from all parts of the world.
The surrounding walled garden of approx. .75acres, are rented to The Abbey Physic Garden, a wonderful project aimed at helping people with Mental Health issues. The area is a great asset for visitors, to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the garden.
This past year has seen general day to day maintenance carried out on the building, as well as extensive internal re-decoration; and repairs and maintenance to furniture and fittings.
Our work continues, to preserve this wonderful building for the People and Town of Faversham. We are already taking bookings for parties to visit the building, and to see for themselves this historic gem !!
