Annual Statement. For Year Ending March 2022

The Old Grammar School CIO, Faversham owns and Maintains a Grade Two Listed Building, built as the Original Queen Elizabeth First Grammar School.

In the 1800’s the building was adapted for use as a Masonic Temple, and still continues in that use today. It is now the centre for several Masonic Lodges, and governed by a Board of Nine Trustees. The building is open to the Public for three days in the year, and many other private viewings take place; to give everyone a chance to view this magnificent and historic building.

The surrounding Garden of approx. .75acres are let off at a peppercorn Rent to the Abbey Physic Garden.

There has been considerable investigation into Air Purifiers being fitted to the building, to help with the prevention of the spread of infections such as Covid-19. This has not been an easy task, considering the restraints of a building of some 450 years old. The building has also had its 5 yearly inspection and survey by a qualified Architect and Surveyor. No substantial defects were found, and the recommendations made will be carried out in due course.

Our work continues, to preserve this wonderful building for the People and Town of Faversham.
