STAFFORD SAMARITANS TRUSTEES REPORT 2022
Stafford Samaritans have continued to provide our service with the aim that fewer people die by suicide. As the world slowly returned to normal, after more than 2 years of dealing with COVID-19, our volunteers carried on with their essential work in branch. During the past year we have successfully implemented a number of organisational changes, introduced by Samaritans Central Charity, to ensure the safeguarding and safety of all callers to Samaritans.
In these uncertain times the world has become, for many, a very worrying place where anyone, at any time, can find themselves needing emotional support. This is why our group of about 65 active listening volunteers continue to man the telephones every day of the week, every week of the year. Our recruitment and training teams have been very busy keeping our numbers up. As conditions allow, we have gradually increased our outreach by providing talks to schools, emergency services and many other local organisations, as well as continuing to train listeners in 2 local prisons.
During 2021/22 we have been very fortunate to receive a number of generous financial donations that will be used for the refurbishment of our branch headquarters building. So far, our CCTV system and external emergency lighting have been updated and new chairs have been provided for our staff on duty.
As Samaritans introduce its latest 5-year strategy, “Tackling Suicide Together”, we aim to ensure that anyone struggling with difficult and overwhelming emotions knows that our volunteers are here, ready to listen.
