TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2023/24
1. Introduction

1.1 This is the eighth annual report by the trustees of the Huntingdonshire Music School. The Music School became a charitable incorporated organisation in August 2016.

1.2 Following relocation from the former Huntingdonshire Regional College to Hinchingbrooke School in September 2016, the Music School has now completed its eighth full year of operation as a registered charity managed by a board of trustees.
2. Present Position

2.1 In the annual report for 2021/22, it was explained that a combination of factors had resulted in the decision by trustees to end all music tuition by the Music School. These included –

the devastating effect of the pandemic during which time student numbers fell and many students and tutors deciding that they did not wish to return to face to face lessons when this became possible;

the departure of both the Manager and Development and Excellence Adviser who had moved away from the area;

the decision of Hinchingbrooke School where the Music School had been based on Saturday mornings to terminate the rental agreement and require the Music School to remove all the instruments and equipment that had been stored there.

2.2 The instruments and equipment were stored elsewhere temporarily but, as explained in the annual report for 2021/22, arrangements were being made for these to be disposed of as there was no further use for them. All the instruments and equipment have now been disposed of. The only income received in 2023/24 was £1,800 from the last remaining equipment to be sold. There was no expenditure in the year.

2.3 A number of trustees remain in position and the accounts submitted show that some residual reserves remain. The trustees have taken a decision to close the charity and have decided to dispose of the remaining funds to music organisations locally with similar aims to the Music School.

2.5 An annual meeting has not been held since 2022.

2.6 The trustees are currently considering applications from organisations for financial assistance.
