HUNTINGDONSHIRE MUSIC SCHOOL
TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2022/23
1. Introduction
-
1.1 This is the seventh annual report by the trustees of the Huntingdonshire Music School. The Music School became a charitable incorporated organisation in August 2016.
-
1.2 Following relocation from the former Huntingdonshire Regional College to Hinchingbrooke School in September 2016, the Music School has now completed its seventh full year of operation as a registered charity managed by a board of trustees.
2. Present Position
-
2.1 In the last annual report, it was explained that a combination of factors had resulted in the decision by trustees to end all music tuition by the Music School. These included –
-
the devastating effect of the pandemic during which time student numbers fell and many students and tutors did not wish to return to face to face lessons when this became possible;
-
the departure of both the Manager and Development and Excellence Adviser who moved away from the area;
-
the decision of Hinchingbrooke School where the Music School had been based on Saturday mornings to terminate the rental agreement and require the Music School to remove all the instruments and equipment that had been stored there.
-
2.2 The instruments and equipment were stored elsewhere temporarily but, as explained in the previous annual report, arrangements were being made for these to be disposed of as there was no further use for them. All the instruments and equipment have now been sold.
-
2.3 The last remaining musical ensemble became independent of the Music School in 2022.
-
2.4 A number of trustees remain in position and, as can be seen from the accounts, some funds remain. The trustees have taken a decision to close the charity but before doing so, have been considering how to dispose of the remaining funds to alternative organisations of a similar type locally. However, due to the illness of the Secretary over the past 12 months, no meetings have been held during that time.
-
2.5 An annual meeting has not been held since 2022.
-
2.6 The trustees will be meeting again shortly to consider a way forward prior to formally closing the charity.
