IOWDECA Chair’s Report June 2024
Hello All, once again I am unfortunately unable to attend a meeting, what a difference a year makes, whereas I had the ability to attend almost every meeting, I now unfortunately am trapped by the Island's omnibus transit company's ludicrous short notice schedule of work. Although I have been sitting on the sidelines I have watched the Isle of Wight Duke of Edinburgh's Award Charitable Association achieve many of the goals that it was set up for. We have faithfully supported the delivery of outdoor-based first aid courses. Archie has expertly delivered these courses and we have helped part-fund these course where possible. Thanks Archie! We have also been able to support adult learning further by continually offering the Mountain Training Lowland Leader Award to build the capacity of those who deliver the Award and align within the red tape that many establishments now require. I am happy to facilitate those courses at a vastly reduced rate to what is offered on the mainland by specialist companies thereby making it possible to safely deliver the Award with less financial difficulties.
I have to thank Carol for her tireless work in the background in knitting together the minutes of the meetings, successfully drawing down funding to boost our ability to support those delivering and engaging in the Award and also helping to cohesively communicate with all our members.
Finally, I have to thank Senad for stepping up where I couldn't be through these past months. Thank You Senad for leading where I faltered and successfully steering the team that is the IOWDECA in a forward manner, it is because of this that I am proposing that you be the new Chair of the IOWDECA, should you want the mantle.
