Trustee Report and Accounts for the year ended 31[st] March 2024
‘Poetry in Aldeburgh’ is a not-for-profit organisation set up by local volunteers in 2016. It is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Our charitable purpose is to promote the arts for the public benefit, in particular the art of poetry, and to advance public education and appreciation of poetry in Aldeburgh by providing an annual poetry festival and /or other poetry events and /or educational outreach programmes.
Following on from the successful reintroduction of an in-person festival in 2022, we decided to suspend the festival in 2023, largely due to the sudden death of Robin Boyd, the previous chair and a founding member of the festival. We used the pause to appoint a new chair and to recruit new trustees and committee members, adding to the skills and knowledge of the organisation. With the new committee in place, we could begin the programming process for 2024.
Charitable donations increased significantly over the year with 9 individual donations totalling £8,450 (2023: £500). The charity entered the 2024/25 financial year with reserve funds of £6,805 (2023: £336). Our generous donors gave us the financial security we required to achieve our goals for the 2024 festival.
Reserves and Reserves Policy
The festival has minimal fixed costs and any reserves are applied towards future festivals.
