## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES** 

The trustees have pleasure in presenting their annual report and accounts for the year ended 31[st] December 2023 

. 

## **1 Objectives and Activities** 

The purposes of the church are: 

1 The advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with the basis of faith primarily but not exclusively within Sidmouth and the surrounding neighbourhood, 

**2** Such other charitable purposes as shall in the opinion of the members of the church in general meeting put into practice the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ in accordance with the basis of  faith.

## **2   Public Benefit** 

The trustees consider that the objectives above fulfill the requirements of the Charity Commission’s public benefit  disclosure. 

## **3 Structure, Governance and Management** 

The church is a registered charity. Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) number 1167687 registered on 16 June 2016 and governed by its Constitution dated 21[st] March 2016 

The trustees who served in 2023 were:Besmir Gorrea-  January – December (Pastor) Hilary Atkinson – January – February (Deacon) Catherine Michell – January – February (Deacon) John Jackson-  January – December (Elder) Bernard Kelly- January – December (Elder) 

Day to day governance of the church is in the hands of the Church Council (the Trustees). Major decisions are   made by the members at Church Members Business Meetings held as required and normally not less than four times a year.  The Annual General Meeting, at which the Secretary and Treasurer report on the work and finances of the church, is normally held towards the end of February. 

## **4.   Review of activities** 

**4.1** Services of worship, prayer and the ministry of God’s word were held on Sunday mornings together with midweek meetings for prayer and Bible Study. 

## **4.2 Involvement of the the congregation** 

Many members of   the congregation are involved in the work of the Church which would be unable to function without their aid. 

## **4.3    Risk Assessment** 

Three main areas of risk have been identified, and the following mitigation procedures have been put in place:- 

a) The trustees closely monitor and manage the finances to ensure that funds are available for ongoing support of its objectives. 

b)DBS checks are made for all those who work with children or other vulnerable groups as part of the charity's activities. 

c) Appropriate insurance is in place to protect the charity. 

d)A Covid risk assessment was carried out for the church to comply with Government guidelines and rules. 

## **4.4 Charitable giving** 

The church supports a number of missionaries, Christian workers, Christian organisations and charities both financially and in prayer.

During 2023 these included the following, who were financially supported from church funds: 

Robin Asgher at Cranford Baptist Church. Clive Barker. A SIM S.E. Asia Field Director.. The Christian Institute Rob Hooks with the London City Mission.

## **4 Financial Review** 

The overall difference between receipts and expenses was - £10,965 compared with -£15,918 in 2022. Accumulated funds reduced from £631,778 at 31/12/22 to £100,090 at 31/12/23 , a reduction of £531,688. This reduction is accounted for by the purchase of the manse (£520,993) together with the deficit of £10,695. Accumulated funds at 31[st] December 2023 amounted to £100,090.
