**Objectives & Activities** 

## **Summary of the Objects of the Charity as set out in its Governing Document** 

1. To advance the Sikh religion for the public benefit by educating people about the Sikh religion through the provision of access to a library with books on the Sikh religion, the teaching of kirtan, the teaching of the Guru Granth Sahib and in such other ways as the trustees from time to time may think fit. 

2. To advance the education of the public in the Punjabi language. 

## **Summary of the Main Activities Undertaken for the Public Benefit in Relation to the Charity's Objects** 

Activities undertaken to meet our objectives: 

## **Activities for Objective-1:** 

1. Covered Sikh history and philosophy topics within our weekly online Punjabi lessons and assembly videos. 

2. Started online kirtan classes via Zoom due to the ongoing pandemic lockdowns and uncertainties. 

3. Took part in the Walk4Sahibzaade initiative to raise awareness of the martyrdom of the Chaar Sahibzaade. 

4. Held online Kahoot! quizzes on various Sikhi topics; both live quizzes and challenges which the students could complete in their own time. Of note, a Vaisakhi-themed family quiz was held in April 2021, and a whole-school Winter quiz was held in December 2021. 

## **Activities for Objective-2:** 

1. Term-time Sunday Punjabi classes were carried out online via Zoom to maximise the safety and wellbeing of our students and volunteers during the pandemic (only exam classes were shifted back to in-person lessons to facilitate better learning). Classes were open to students aged 3+, from Punjabi beginners to GCSE and A Level students. The demand for our adult beginners class in particular has greatly increased. 

2. Many of our students completed their GCSE and A Level Punjabi exams in Autumn 2021. The other students sat internal end-of-year exams to consolidate their knowledge. 

3. Shared interactive Punjabi questions on Instagram. 

4. Held regular online Punjabi Kahoot! live quizzes as well as challenges to be completed in the students’ own time. 

5. Purchased Punjabi books to distribute and sell to our students. 

6. Some young volunteers who had completed their Punjabi A-Level exams started volunteering in teaching Punjabi classes 

7. Annual End-of-Year Punjabi-based programme in July 2021 in which all classes participated by creating video presentations, edited by our volunteers.

The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the commission in exercising their powers or duties. 

## **Summary of the Main Achievements of the Charity for the Year** 

- Successful running of term-time weekly Panjabi, kirtan and Sikhi classes catering for 100-150 students and giving many parents and volunteers the opportunity to give back to their community. Punjabi classes had been successfully shifted to an online platform (Zoom) when pandemic restrictions began, and continued in this format, although exam classes (GCSE & A level) later shifted to face-to-face. 

- Annual whole-school summer programme for which each class created video presentations, edited by our volunteers, to celebrate and showcase the students’ learning. 

- Students successfully completing their Punjabi GCSE and A Level exams in Autumn 2021. 

- Online quizzes on the Kahoot! platform, allowing students to learn and engage with each other in a fun way.
