REC Elder5 Report
th
Year ending 30 September 2023
The elders were keen to see the church develop with a wider range of activities
and more of an outreach focus in the post-covid era.
Two Pastoral Assistants were appointed from January 2023 to support the
work of the church. Ada Boa5 and l<ay Taylor. Ada took a number of steps to
increase the church's online presence, and updated the church's website. Kay
undertook visiting and helped drive forward some additional groups.
By the end of the year, the church had a well-embedded online prayer meeting
every Wednesday. a craft group meeting on Fridays, Fellowship Time on
Tuesdays, a Toddler Group for parents / carers with their children on
Wednesday mornings, a monthly Saturday youth groupj and there had been
largely unfruitful attempts to Start the Living Room project for young people
after school on Mondays, with the involvement of Waltham Forest Youth for
Christ.
The main Sunday service continued. The preaching was delivered by several
members of the Ridgeway familyj plus a complement of guest speakers. It was
agreed that, usually, the fifth Sunday of the month should be 'Testimony
Sunday,. There was a creche, a children's group and a youth group scheduled
most weeks during the service.
The church supported the local arrangements on Remembrance Day, providing
warm drinks and changing facilities for the band. A wreath was laid at the war
memorial.
There was an Inside / Outside Christmas Carol Service in December, with the
local community invited in.
In early 2023, the church operated a warm space weekly, with a range of
people coming in to Use the church facil ities and to keep warm.
In October 2022, Valentin joined the eldership. Subsequently the elders and
other key leaders within the church took on roles of 'Champion' of certain
areas if the church life and work.
The elders have been keen to work with other churches in Chingford. Kay
attended several meetings of CICF. The church supported a parade event at
Christmas with a camel. The church tookthe lead in organisingthe walk of
witness in North ChingFord on Good Friday. There was also a joint prayer and
praise event during the summer in Mansfield Park.
