Friends Activities 2024-2025
In 2024-25 Friends supported these objectives through the following activities:
-
King's Kulture ensured that every student in the school had the opportunity to attend cultural experiences. Students wrote reflective reviews of their experiences.
-
A bespoke We Speak programme for KCLMS, delivered online in the Spring term.
-
We continued to fund a Learning Mentor to work with students on a one-to-one or small group basis to improve their learning behaviours and literacy, including support for students with SEND requirements.
-
We sponsored parent and student events, including the King's Konzert/Pizza Evening in December, King's Konzert/Bingo Night in March, and the Y13 Celebration Evening in June.
-
We sponsored running event entries including the Hampton Court Half Marathon in April and the Martian Run in June.
-
We funded the Y13 Prom in June 2025.
-
We continued to fund Healthy Snacks for students.
-
We funded a Bushcraft experience for students.
-
We supported students participating in the Young Enterprise Competition.
King’s Kulture trip to Hamilton
Achievements and performance
-
The Learning Mentor programme supported 44 students across both year groups with Academic Literacy (ACL) and organisation support, including SEND provision:
-
Organisation support: 19 Y13 students, 14 Y12 students
-
ACL support: 8 Y12 students (weekly small group lessons)
-
EHCP and additional support: 1 Y13 student, 2 Y12 students
-
8 students graduated from support (7 Y13, 1 Y12), demonstrating programme effectiveness
-
For King's Kulture , 164 tickets were purchased across 10 cultural trips, including a visit to Hamilton. All Y12 students attended at least one trip. Whole year group trips were offered to increase cultural capital, with matinee performances offered especially for students with long commutes. Students received tickets free-of-charge and wrote reflective reviews afterwards to critically evaluate the culture they experienced.
-
12 Y12 students participated in the We Speak programme in Spring 2025. Following completion, students delivered a highlights assembly to the whole year group and were offered the opportunity to participate in the Lilian Baylis regional speaking competition.
-
The King's Konzert/Pizza Evening in December 2024 attracted approximately 150 guests, the highest in-person parent attendance on record, providing an excellent opportunity to promote the Friends. The King's Konzert/Bingo Night in March and Y13 Celebration Evening in June continued to strengthen community connections.
-
Students participated in sponsored running events including the Hampton Court Half Marathon and the Martian Run , promoting health and fitness alongside academic achievement.

Financial review
During 2024-25, the Friends drew on reserves to fund an expanded programme of activities, resulting in expenditure exceeding income for the year. Total income from donations and Gift Aid was £15,103, with an additional £112 in bank interest following the establishment of an interest-bearing savings account on the recommendation of the independent examiner. Total expenditure on charitable activities was £24,964, with £60 in bank charges.
The closing balance of £41,331 provides a solid foundation to support the school's requests for financial assistance in the coming year, though the trustees recognise the need to increase fundraising activity to ensure long-term sustainability.
There are no uncertainties about the Friends continuing as a going concern.

Structure, governance and management
The Friends of KCLMS is a CIO governed by its 'Foundation' Constitution and registered as a charity with the Charity Commission.
As set out in the Constitution, trustees are appointed for a term of two years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.
During the year, Alison Wolf resigned as trustee (while continuing to attend Friends meetings). Korhan Korel and Joanne Kong were appointed as new trustees. Anthea Ameer, Janet Ikpase and Kate Riddick continued as trustees following the expiration and renewal of their terms.
