Church Secretary Report
Pastor Christians, Board Members, Members, Church Family and Friends, I greet you all in the matchless name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Firstly, I would like to thank the Pastoral Team audaciously – Reverend Doctor Trevor Christians and his wife Mrs Twyla Christians for understanding and persevering with the leadership at Clapham Junction Church of the Nazarene when they experienced the housing problems due to reduced finances and the Church Manse not being completed according to the scheduled date. Glory to God they are now settled in at the Church Manse and is enjoying the facilities and sceneries that the Clapham Junction / Battersea location has to offer.
I would also like to thank The NMI Department, The Trustees and The Stewards for enabling these Departments to function despite the Building Project and the COVID pandemic issues. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to Mr Roger Gaskin who despite not being a Trustee still assists the The Stewards Department in one way or another when needed.
When I spoke with Miss Daphne Queenbarrows concerning taking on the responsibility of being in charge of the janitorial services for the Church when we were able to meet at 2 Grant Road for services, she did hesitate to comply.
Also compliments to Miss Daphne Queenbarrows and the team – Mr Roger Gaskins and Mrs Gayle for the janitorial service they undertake on a weekly basis.
I must also compliment the Worship Team - Miss Cherianne Johnson, Mrs Lorraine Daw, Mr Vinnel Smith and Mr Hubert Mitchell for their commitment and dedication without fail to provide an atmosphere of Worship and Praise at CJ Church of the Nazarene.
A gratuitous thank you must also be extended to Mr Ian Thomas, Mr Roger Gaskin, Miss Daphne Queenbarrows and one other who continue to give sacrificially to the Building Project Pledge despite it ending in October’2021.
2022 was a very challenging year for the Church and with no designated building to meet in, the Tithes and Offering income was greatly reduced. But I must say thank you to the Church Members and friends who continued to give quite willingly and as a result the Church is able to offset monthly expenses incurred.
Another setback is the prolonged date of completion for the Building Project whereby the Building Contractors PAPG Interiors Ltd seems to be very incompetent in providing a decisive hand over date so that the Church can plan to explore various possibilities to get an income hence becoming a profitable and productive organisation. This delay is also causing stagnation with us preparing an activity structure for the NMI Department, The NYI Department and The Sunday School Department.
We are also unable to facilitate various Community events which will allow Clapham Junction Church of the Nazarene to become known in the Community.
On the 26 July’2022 the Church sadly lost one of its members, our dear Mr Sterling Dawson who was very prolific to the Worship Department of the Church with his skills of playing the bass guitar and also singing. This has made an indelible void in this department. May the Church continue to pray for Miss Donna Bryan and the Dawson Family that God will continue to give them a peace that passeth all understanding as they continue to mourn the loss.
There were also some positive achievements happening at Clapham Junction Church of the Nazarene despite being faced with challenges.
On the 17[th] July’2022 the Church congregation was able to meet back at 2 Grant Road, Battersea, SW11 2NU for Church and what a joyous occasion it was.
As a result we have a family from the Philippines and a student from Mozambique attending and worshipping with us.
The NMI Department managed to raise £510.00 from the Sponsored Walk held on Saturday 13[th] August’2022 in Battersea Park .
On the 17[th] December’2022 the Church was able to host a lunch extravaganza for the Seniors Members of the Church in the new hall which was a great success despite it being cold as the new boiler system had malfunctioned.
The Shoe Box Ministry done by the Sunday School Department was another great success this year and managed to dispatch 41 boxes.
The monthly figure for Tithes and Offering has also increased in the months of November and December 2022 and for this I stay thanks to the Covenant Members and others who give so sacrificially.
I am also very ecstatic that after 3 years, the Church is able to have its Annual General Meeting again. For 2023 it will be held on the 12[th] February’2023.
I look forward with great expectancy to what God has in store for the Clapham Junction Church of the Nazarene for 2023 and I pray that as He directs we will be receptive and adhere to His guidance as we strive in unison to make Clapham Junction Church of the Nazarene a beacon for Jesus Christ in the community.
I end my report with the bible verse from Galatians 1:10
“For am I now seeking the favour of men,or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
Respectively Submitted, Church Secretary Mrs Lorraine Daw
