Summary of activities

This year has again been dominated by the response to the Covid-19 global pandemic. The band’s strategy over this period continued, namely :

Rehearsals resumed in May 2021 with comprehensive mitigations in place against the risk of catching covid. In July statutory covid restrictions were lifted and instead became advisory. The band continued with considered Health and Safety measures encompassing all risks including that of covid.

Players returned in greater numbers in September and by January a consistent number of players attended rehearsals. However, with the emergence of the omicron variant of covid-19 in January the band reviewed its risk assessment and some mitigations were strengthened. Numbers of players attending remained stable.

The band looked for opportunities to perform outdoors in a covid-safe environment. Preparation for these events helped motivate players to return and attend rehearsals regularly. We played at four events. These included a return to playing at Gawsworth on Remembrance Sunday and to carolling locally. The band were delighted to include two new events to celebrate our return to performing, being on the bandstand at a local park in Macclesfield, and further afield at Tatton Park, Knutsford.

In January the decision was made to actively recruit up to 6 beginners to play the cornet. Lessons would be provided by the band with a view to integrating the new players into the band during 2022.

Finances remain healthy as we go forward into 2022.

We look forward to returning to a full programme of events during 2022.

Many thanks to the trustees for another year of hard and challenging work. Karen Allgood and Jenny Birtwistle both retired at the AGM. They were thanked for their valued contribution to the charity since its inception. Amanda Moss and Caroline Proudlove were elected as new trustees. They have both settled in well to their roles and made important contributions to the running of the band.
