|Summary of the main<br>activities in relation to those<br>purposes for the public<br>benefit, in particular, the<br>activities, projects or<br>services identified in the<br>accounts.|Para 1.17 and<br>1.19|During this financial year BMPR’s primary<br>focus has been on the care, rehabilitation &<br>rehoming of the residents in our<br>responsibility,<br>We have provided suitable nutritional<br>assistance, rehabilitative care, routine &<br>emergency veterinary attention including<br>worming & registered farrier attendance.<br>Many of our residents come to us as feral<br>unhandled ponies or ponies with<br>compromised welfare & past abuse, we<br>have worked with each individuals handling<br>to allow them to trust human interaction to<br>enable them a future as human<br>companions through active rehoming<br>schemes for those that are suitable, in<br>some cases due to health or behavioural<br>issues some ponies may take considerable<br>time to reach this point & some may remain<br>in our care for life. This year we have had<br>no ponies return to our care & 2 new<br>residents as being such a small<br>organisation we are currently at capacity,<br>we found 1 long term home. Suitable<br>homes are sought and subject to thorough<br>home checks and references they are<br>placed under contract within new homes &<br>are monitored during this time to ensure<br>welfare needs are being met.  At time of<br>writing we have responsibility for 43 ponies<br>in all with 23 in long term homes, 18 in|

Sadly we<br>are still struggling to recruit new hands on<br>volunteers even with additional campaigns<br>to help on social media however those we<br>do have helped significantly alongside a<br>couple of additional volunteers who have<br>assisted on admin and fundraising help with<br>2 full-time volunteers who devote their life<br>to the care of the ponies, and training to<br>become more and more effective at this<br>and another 2 days a week, with casual<br>volunteers ad hoc.  During this period,<br>focus has been on fundraising & day to day|





care, rehabilitation & readying those who will be suitable for rehoming. We will continue to recruit a small volunteer force to aid both the day to day running of our sites and for additional admin and fundraising duties. We give thanks to those volunteers who have helped with fundraising, events & help with pony checks at satellite locations Other

As a<br>relatively young charity we are slowly<br>building our relationships within the local<br>community & hope once we establish our<br>charity & facilities we will be able to open<br>our doors to the greater community by way<br>of accepting more volunteers, open days &<br>ultimately human wellbeing through equine<br>interactions & nature. During this financial<br>year the long term effects of the pandemic<br>& cost of living crisis have continued to<br>impact our ability to attend fundraising &<br>awareness events & due to so much<br>personal & financial uncertainty it has<br>continued to impact our regular donation<br>income from supporters. However we have<br>been working hard to apply for assistance<br>via grant funding. We are gradually<br>improving our infrastructure as funds allow<br>to support both our residents and those<br>who benefit from our sites<br>We have continued to support the public<br>with equine welfare advice & support,<br>continued to support our guardian & foster<br>homes to enable ponies to remain in their<br>placements, we have continued to rehome<br>ponies that are ready for new homes and<br>opportunities & also find new homes or<br>resume care for ponies that are returned to<br>us due to personal changes of<br>circumstance. We continue to informally<br>monitor our local moorland pony herds &|

|Review of the charity’s<br>financial position at the end<br>of the period|Para 1.21|It is reassuring to see our income rising this<br>year helped particularly by successful<br>applications for sponsor/grant income<br>equating to £58,031 and whilst not a huge<br>increase we have ended the year with<br>increased reserves. Regular donations and<br>fundraising opportunities have continued to<br>be hard to sustain due to general financial<br>uncertainties within the economy with the<br>cost of living crisis post pandemic, however<br>we have continued to receive a regular<br>monthly sponsorship from The Hilda<br>Florence Holmes trust which has helped<br>enable us to continue to afford facilities &<br>provide our residents with what they need<br>& Friends of the Animals, Isle of Wight have<br>resumed their support with veterinary<br>support which we are so grateful for. This<br>additional support is allowing us to<br>gradually accrue the security of small<br>reserves and allow us to improve<br>infrastructure at our exposed site which has<br>regularly sustained storm damage. Whilst<br>this is a slow process each year we are<br>gradually moving forwards.  We continue to<br>keep our resident numbers low & focus on<br>training of our longer term residents to give<br>them the greatest opportunity to find future<br>homes  We will continue these measures<br>until income increases. We will continue to<br>source grant funding opportunities, source<br>more events to attend & find different ways<br>to fundraise alongside our online events|

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] March 2024, which are set out on form CC16a. 

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** 

The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts; 

- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under the Act; and 

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## **Basis of the independent examiner’s report** 

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that: 

   - proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with the Act); and 

   - accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or 

- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
