We have also built upon our network of other organisations within the local community. It was an absolute pleasure working alongside George on the Trustee Board of The Purple Penguin Club. Following his sad passing, the introduction of the George Bose Trophy enables us to continue to celebrate his dedication and commitment to the charity, whilst saying thank you to staff members who share the same values. I would like to say a huge thank you to both Wendy & Ellen for doing such an incredible job managing the charity and its activities. We are also fortunate to have an amazing staff team, in that we aim to become even more supportive of with our new dedicated project funding. The opening of the new Sunday provision now means that we can support even more young people and their families in an environment more suited to their needs. We are excited for this to grow over time! We are currently in a healthy financial position enabling us to build our reserves. We are fortunate to receive multiple grants to enable us to provide outstanding staff training and development, as well as a plethora of fun trips and activities for the members. I am really excited to see the developments next year! The Vibe, 195-211, Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, RM8 2UT Phone: 07713983995 ## **The George Bose Award:** In August 2021 we unexpectedly and sadly lost our charity Treasurer, George. George was pivotal to the conception and setting up of The Purple Penguin Club and he had a huge role to play in the running and organisation of the charity. George organised the charity accounts, and took responsibility for all the charity’s payroll and invoicing, all as a volunteer. In George’s memory we saw it fitting to have a way of remembering his contribution to The Purple Penguin Club by having a trophy made. The George Bose trophy is awarded annually to a staff member who goes above and beyond for the benefit of the charity. Last years award winner, John Huddleston (Left) will be presenting to this year’s award winner - Mr Aaron King (Right). Aaron receives this award for the dedication and commitment he has given to The Purple Penguin Club over the past 5 years, Aaron works full time in a demanding position as well as regularly working with us on Saturdays. Aaron always has a strong desire to help support the charity in its aims, the families, and children we support. The Vibe, 195-211, Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, RM8 2UT Phone: 07713983995 ## **Objectives and Activities** As well as running our regular respite services on Saturdays from The Vibe Youth Centre, in January 2023 we launched our new club running on Sundays from the Becontree Children’s Hub. This new club has been designed specifically for younger children and those with complex needs. The new venue has a brand-new sensory room, secure outside space and changing places with track hoisting throughout. In August 2022, we successfully ran a 5-day residential trip to Stubbers Activity Centre, which was made possible thanks to the generous funding received from The Essex Youth Trust and The Charles S French Foundation. Every session at Stubbers was completely full and we were able to offer many exciting activities to the members including canoeing, climbing, orienteering and team games. ## **Achievements and Performance** We continue to receive funding from The Jack Petchey Foundation allowing us to purchase extra equipment and activities which would not otherwise be possible. Over the past year they have funded sensory equipment, arts and crafts, sports activities and trips out; including PuttShack, Moby Golf, Theatre trips and boating at Barking Park. Last year’s award winners were: Ayaoluwa, **May 2022** Tommy A, **October 2022** And this year’s award winner so far is Leon (Pictured), **March 2023** The Vibe, 195-211, Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, RM8 2UT Phone: 07713983995 During this period, we nominated Laura Tickner (right) for a Jack Petchey Leader award. Laura works most Saturdays and has recently been promoted into a Supervisor role. Laura also helps to co-ordinate all our volunteers ensuring that they are well looked after and supported in their roles. ## **Volunteering Project 2023** On the 12[th] November 2022, Wendy, Ellen, Jaba (Playworker), Shane (Volunteer) and Ayaoluwa (Member) went to pitch a project idea to a large group of the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy Panel. Albeit a very nervous pitch, we were delighted that we had a successful outcome. This project is running for a year and allows improved support for the volunteers that we have, whilst providing funding for lots of training; including accredited First Aid, Safeguarding, and Health and Safety training. The funding also provides volunteers with embroidered T-Shirts and ID badges to develop team cohesion. The Vibe, 195-211, Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, RM8 2UT Phone: 07713983995 ## **Financial Review** We have successfully been awarded a place on the LBBD Local Authority Commissioning framework meaning we are able to apply for tenders and deliver contracts within the borough. Although attracting funding can be challenging, we are fortunate that we are supported by some amazing charitable trusts including The Jack Petchey Foundation and The Essex Youth Trust. Because of this the charity remains in a financially stable position which is essential for continuing the work that we do and attracting further funding. **----- Start of picture text -----**

## **Looking forward:** We have just found out that we have received funding for a Stubbers weekend residential trip in August 2023 thanks to The Essex Youth Trust. In addition, we are also planning a weekend residential trip to Lambourne End. Due to demand we shall be increasing the amount of Sunday sessions that we will be running after Easter 2023. As we continue to grow and develop, we are really excited for what this next year will hold.
