## **Objectives and Activities**

|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**Our objectives as contained in our**
**Constitution/Governing Document are as**
**follows:**
**1) To provide financial help and**
**support to very poor and**
**underprivileged children and**
**young people through our**
**sponsorship in education scheme**
**in developing countries i.e.,**
**Bangladesh, Kenya and the**
**Philippines.**
**2) We also seek to provide medical**
**treatments and procedures as well**
**as support and advice on health**
**issues through our Mobile Clinic**
**work, mainly in Bangladesh and**
**Kenya.**
**3) We provide small scale emergency**
**relief aid and assistance in times**
**of need mainly in these countries.**|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**The expansion of the Shop premises last**
**year significantly bolstered the**
**organisation's ability to sustain the level**
**of our support overseas this year.**
**However, as the trustees have now**
**decided, due to the health issues of one**
**of our Trustees and the resignation of**
**another, to reluctantly close our Charity**
**Shop operation in December 2023, which**
**was the main source of income for the**
**Charity. This will mean that next year will**
**inevitably see a scaling down of all our**
**work overseas.**
**This year had seen an increase in**
**medical treatments and procedures**
**which seemed to have been the greatest**
**need at the time.**|

|||**The increase in the number of children**
**we supported last year, will be**
**maintained until the end of the next**
**financial year 2023-24, after which we**
**envisage a reduction in operations of the**
**charity itself and eventual closing of our**
**overseas work.**
**We continue our solar energy project**
**providing electricity to poor homes in**
**Southern Bangladesh and Kenya.**
**We increased our financial support again**
**to Dorcas Ministries International. We are**
**privileged to be in partnership with Dr**
**and Mrs Edgerton, supporting their work**
**in Kenya and Africa.**|
|---|---|---|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**All the Trustees are aware with regard to**
**the guidance issued by the Charity**
**Commission on the public benefit.**
**Due to the closure of our Charity Shop at**
**the end of December 2023 and the**
**circumstances leading to that decision,**
**we have not been able to attend any of**
**the courses offered by the Charity**
**Commission this year. We will endeavour**
**to do so in the coming months to help us**
**to improve and further our knowledge**
**and awareness of our responsibilities**
**currently as Trustees.**|

|Contribution made by
volunteers|Para 1.38|**The continuing hard work and support of**
**our dedicated volunteers has been**
**invaluable this year in the areas of office**
**administration and IT operations. The**
**day-to-day running of the Charity Shop**
**has been supported by the hard work of**
**our volunteers up until our closure in**
**December 2023. Through their**
**contribution the Charity has been able to**
**maintain its ongoing work in the**
**countries where we operate.**|

|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|**We continue our financial support for a**
**number of students, including 40 in**
**Bangladesh, and 10 college/university**
**students in the Philippines. This has**
**improved the educational outcomes and**
**career prospects of these young people.**
**Our Medical Support work continues**
**mainly in Bangladesh with 7 treatments**
**and medical operations this past financial**
**year: including a second follow up**
**operation for a hydrocephalic child to**
**remove fluid from the brain, the provision**
**of wheelchair and other aids, etc. – all of**
**which have improved the quality of life of**
**the patients.**
**We have continued our financial support**
**and cooperation with Dorcas Ministries**
**International, by supporting them**
**financially in the expansion of their**
**school building, dormitory extension, and**
**kitchen refurbishment, contributing**
**£2,948 in total towards the cost of these**
**projects. ## **Financial Review**

|**Financial Review**|||
|---|---|---|
|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|**At the end of the financial year 2022-2023**
**our total income was£27,698.97.After**
**deducting Shop costs and expenses of**
**£24,494.84, we had a small surplus of**
**£3,204.13. Our overseas Projects**
**support/expenditure in Bangladesh,**
**Kenya and the Philippines for this period**
**amounted to just over£9,000 of which**
**£6,052.34 was taken from the previous**
**year’s surplus.**|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**We are holding the reserves for disaster**
**appeals and emergencies in the countries**
**where we work.**
**At the end of each financial year we hold**
**the remaining surplus/reserves for use as**
**and when a need arises during the**
**course of the next financial year.**
**In this period 2022-23, we had to draw on**
**our reserves to meet our current financial**
**commitments for overseas work which**
**had been undermined by the Charity’s**
**expedient decision to close down.**|

|Reasons for holding zero
reserves|Para 1.22|**N/A**|
|Details of fund materially in
deficit|Para 1.24|**N/A**|
|Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern|Para 1.23|**The continued work of our Charity Shop**
**was met with considerable challenges in**
**the last financial period. We have**
**however reported positive results for this**
**financial period, with a healthy reserve of**
**approximately £12,000 and a small**
**surplus of just over £3,000, which has**
**enabled us to sustain our work overseas**
**for another year.**
**We have had several extenuating**
**circumstances which have had a**
**significant impact on our ability to**
**maintain the day-to-day work of our**
**charity i.e. organisational capacity and**
**fewer volunteers. Specifically, our Charity**
**Shop manager, who is also a Trustee for**
**the charity, deteriorated in health, leading**
**to a curtailment of our operating hours**
**and opening days this year, the result of**
**this was a reduction in our income by as**
**much as 40%.**|

**In addition to this, we have had the resignation of one of our trustees due to his work commitments and have been unable to successfully attract more trustees. Our plans to host an open day were put on hold again since last year. The two remaining trustees have concerns going forward given these circumstances and have therefore decided to downsize our operations overseas and with the intention of closing the Charity altogether.**

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- • the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
