## 1.0 Introduction to CIO
Hyde Unity Centre, also known as HUC, is a Charity Incorporated Organisation (CIO) No: 1167273, and was established in May 2016. The organisation operates from 1[st] Floor, 138 Market Street, Hyde, SK14 1EX. It has got several indoor games equipment such as Carrom, Pool Tables, etc; and organises tournaments across the region. We are actively looking to relocate from current premises.
The primary object of the charity is
TO PROMOTE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE INHABITANTS OF HYDE AND SURROUNDING AREA THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES FOR RECREATION OR OTHER LEISURE TIME OCCUPATION OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NEED OF SUCH FACILITIES BY REASON OF THEIR YOUTH, AGE, INFIRMITY OR DISABLEMENT, FINANCIAL HARDSHIP OR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES OR FOR THE PUBLIC AT LARGE IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITION OF LIFE OF THE SAID INHABITANTS.
Hyde Unity Centre is fairly new and is now in its five year of operation.
## **2.0 Objectives**
## 2.1 Aims
- Provide indoor/outdoor sports facilities to cater for the needs of disadvantaged
- Arrange training to be qualified coaches, referees and trainers for people to enhance job or freelance opportunities
- Provide health related activities for marginalised communities, such as
- woman
- Hold tournaments to encourage competition, confidence and social cohesion
- Provide sports activities for young people to combat anti-social behaviour and keep active
## 2.2 Current area of work
Hyde Unity Centre has hired premises on Market Street in the town of Hyde and provides carrom, darts and pool table facility. The centre is open when possible in the evenings as it caters for the needs of those working in restaurants and takeaways.

The Centre has started organising tournaments, which is becoming popular and draws in people from outside of Hyde and Tameside.
## 2.3 Management structure
Given that it is a fairly new organisation it has got lean management structure
The Charity does not employ anyone at the moment and is solely run by volunteers.
## 2.4 Governance
Hyde unity centre has three Trustees each one of them taking key role of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The following are the trustees:
Mohammed Iqbal, Chair, is an entrepreneur with key skills in planning, organising and networking. He is well connected across Greater Manchester and beyond primarily within Bangladeshi community. Living locally, he is also on the Executive Committee of local mosque.
Abdul Mumin, Secretary, runs takeaways with proven experience in information technology. He is a keen sports player in his spare time and is fitness conscious. He is an excellent communicator, which has attracted many new users to the Centre and an active volunteer in the community.
Mohammed Abdul Boshor is a restaurant owner with business and finance experience. He is the treasurer for Hyde Unity Centre and has expertise in pool table. Boshor is keen to support local initiatives that bring about positive changes in peoples lives.
## 2.5 Membership
Based on the Foundation Model of Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) constitution the current members of the organisation are its charity trustees. However, they have power to create associate or other classes of non-voting membership or create an Advisory Committee.
## 2.6 Catchment area
Primary catchment area is Hyde Werneth (Tameside) and surrounding areas to include Hyde Newton and Hyde Godley in the close proximity of the Hyde Unity Centre. However, the initial monitoring of the attendance and participation at tournaments suggests that people travelled from other parts of

the borough as well as further afield. There is an average of 35 people on a regular basis and about 100 people on tournament days.
## 2.7 Insurance
Hyde Unity Centre has a Public Liability Insurance cover of up to £5 million and Employers Liability Insurance of up to £5 million

Hyde Unity Centre obtained its Charities Incorporated Organisations (CIO) in May 2016 and have started operating as a Charity from June 2016.
The Charity is solvent and has a bank account

## 3.0 Business Context and Environment
There are external factors that could influence in developing a business for the Charity in the future. These are Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Legal and Environmental (PESTLE) and the analysis of these are as follows:
## 3.1 Political
Hyde Unity Centre has close links with some political parties. Given the lack of similar facility in the area for the targeted communities, it has received political support. The organisation regularly invites local Councillors to their activities to keep them abreast of the activities.
## 3.2 Economic
Almost all the three wards in Hyde are socially and economically deprived areas area except Gee Cross which is on the top of Hyde Werneth Ward. The ward borders with Woodley ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport.
The following are economic factors that could challenge the development of the organisation:
- Increase cost of living out stripping income for middle class families
- High unemployment and under-employment in the area
- Most customers work in catering industry therefore can participate in
- leisure activities only after business hours
- Affordability of leisure/sporting activities
Given a recent increase in interest rate it could further prevail people from participating in certain leisure activity and the organisation needs to be mindful of this fact.
## 3.3 Sociological
There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area. The organisation could keep the centre open during day time with funding to keep young people engaged and out of the streets. Football and cricket are popular games within the local young people and the organisation could expend its activities beyond indoor leisure/sports activities. Three are also a lack of light

physical activities for the elderly as well for women in the area. Since the centre is now more stabilised, it could look into increase its reach.
## 3.4 Technological
The organisation has developed a website www.hydeunitycentre.org It means that the organisation has increased its social media presence. It can therefore reach larger audiences encouraging increased participation in its activities. It could also receive feedback from its users on the net to improve and expand its services.
## 3.5 Legal
The organisation operates within the regulations as required by the Charity Commission. It has got public liability insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances. However, if the organisation is mindful of extending its services for the elderly and/or young people the staff/volunteers running activities will require Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as well as training on working with Vulnerable people.
## 3.6 Environmental
Hyde Unity Centre is conscientious and ensures that all the lighting equipment are LED which saves power and are user friendly. It also adheres to the regulation by ensuring that all the rubbish is put in an appropriate bin. Old sports equipment and accessories are disposed of or recycled based on the guidance provided by the Council.
## 4.0 Market analysis
## 4.1 Market size
Estimated population of Hyde in Tameside was 34,872 on 30[th] June 2016 - - (https://www.citypopulation.de/php/uk england northwestengland.php? cityid=E35000037)
There has been migration mainly from Spain and Italy in the past three years. Most of these have Bengali origin with fluency in Spanish/Italian and Bengali languages. However, it has increased potential users of the sports activities

provided by Hyde Unity Centre. Given that the centre provides indoor activities, such as carom, is a unique opportunity for the borough as there is no similar activity in Tameside. With right marketing and promotion with training element for new comers will enhance the market size significantly for the organisation.
## 4.2 Competition
Darts and pool table facilities are available in some local pubs however people from certain faith will be reluctant to go to such venue due to social and cultural barriers. Carrom facilities are only available at Hyde Unity Centre, making it a unique venue for those interested in playing this game. Also, the Centre is open until late hours at night since most of the users are from catering industry, it is much more convenient to locals. It is also placed on Market street, a main street in the town means that the venue is easily accessible. The Centre is mindful to develop new activities both indoor and outdoor based on the feedback received from the users as well as local community. There is a lack of for certain sports, such as cricket, both indoor and outdoor depending upon the season. There is also an opportunity to develop training leading to become a qualified umpire or a coach, which has potential to attract younger generation. There is no such provision at the moment so it is unlikely that the centre will have any competition.
## 5.0 Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) Analysis
Strength:
Proven interest in out of hours sports facility
Local and accessible provision
Become a social hub increasing interaction, communication and understanding
People from outside of the borough are also interested in taking part in tournaments enhancing its network and social reach
Based on the success so far there is a potential to increase income via funding to develop and/or to test out new activities

Lack of resources, mainly money
No staff to keep the centre open for longer hours
Users are reluctant to pay since they are on low income

## 6.0 Organisational objectives
Based on the discussion with users, volunteers and the Board, the following are the main organisational objectives on the basis of which the 3 years Action Plan has been devised:
## 6.1. Increase revenue of Hyde Unity Centre
Identify and make application for fundraising for new and diverse activities and to sustain the current ones.

## 6.2. Increase earned income
Increase the number and diversify tournaments which will bring in new and increased income. Each participant in the tournament will have to pay an entry fees. Tournaments can be at different levels – local, sub-regional and regional.
## 6.3. Undertake marketing and promotional activities
The organisation could benefit by raising its profile and making it known widely. It will help increase participation, increase revenue and will help to attract additional funding.
6.4. Increase participation from underrepresented groups
Women, elderly and young people are underrepresented on the centre activities. Tailor made activities can be developed for each of the group which will bring inclusion, cohesion, combat social isolation as well as help to increased revenue for the organisation.
6.5. Focus on development and sustainability of the organisation
Keep the centre open for longer hours by creating a post or increase number of volunteers to address new activities and address Objective 4 above.
