-
India:
-
The MGM/WSC clinic continues to function under a new clinical supervisor. Patient numbers remain steady
-
Sona, the PhD student has completed the clinical chart review and is compiling the results to present within the next few weeks
-
Rajani and the clinic supervisor have gathered most of the clinical data from the past 6 years to provide an overview of clinical activities, patient profiles and outcomes. We are looking at the possibility of a comparative review of data between Europe and India (Navi Mumbai)
-
Ghana:
-
Following my visit to Ghana last November Afua has continued to work at Ridge Hospital under the banner of WSC. There was interest from National College in the USA to potentially send preceptors to Ghana for periods of 3 months. Unfortunately due to communication problems and difficulties Afua has in receiving information and decisions from hospital administrators and management the project was abandoned. Further communications with Afua have all resulted in the same conclusion that until the hospital management changes we will not be able to move the project forward.
4. Nigeria:
- Michael Piccirillo has a long-standing relationship with a surgeon in Nigeria who heads an orthopaedic department. They have been keen to develop their nonsurgical services and a number of online meetings have been helot determine the feasibility of providing support ..
5. BACKTRACK programme :
- Cliona O’Sullivan introduced us to a project that she has been working on with Irish Aid, Science Foundation Ireland and Mbara University, Ghana. The project works in rural communities in Ghana endeavouring ti reduce the burden of back pain using technology enabled care pathways. They have utilised the GSCI protocols in their care pathway development. They are currently seeking funding
to develop and enhance the technology within the training of local HCPs. We are seeking ways in which we may be able to collaborate with the project and aid their fundraising efforts.
- Spine Ride:
This year saw 13 cyclists ride through Northern Spain following the Camino trail. Riders tackled mountains, 35+ degrees of temperature, several bike breakdowns and a great deal of snoring to cover 500 miles (800km) in 6 days. Next year we travel through the heart of Europe from 15 June -21 June. All are welcome to join us.
