To relieve the needs of young people and their families living in Christchurch, Dorset and the Somerford ward, by such charitable means as the Trustees see fit from time to time We have provided a youth club and related social and recreational aGtivities during evenings, after school time and during school holidays to over 400 local young people. Most young people who come to the centre are local from the estate where we are located which is an area which experiences high levels of multiple deprivation. improve skills for Ilfe and have better outcomes. As many of our young people are also from families who are on low income the activities. we provide at the cèntre are low cost so that they can be accessed by as many ofthe community reducing affordability as a barrier. In addition to this, we cover costs for those families and young people to engage in projects where we know they face severe hardship. As a result of providing more serrfices lo young people we have had to increase the number of volunteers we have working at the centre and nearly all of these have come from the local community reducing isolation and providing people with something different to do. We provide 8 youth club sessions a week during school tem time and 2 sessions a week during school holiday time. This has provided a valuable resource for over 300 local young people. We are also providing an activity programme every day throughout the school holidays. These opportunities also extend to students on placements or adults who require working experience to help them get into employmenL We continue to provide volunteering opportunities for local people, a number of those are our older young people who attend the older yOh club sessions. We continue to run our Stay and Play sessions for parents and their preschool children which has provided a social and educational hub for over 30 families. We run a community food project called The People's Pantry run by local volunteers which is a step- up from foodbank which can be accessed by local families even if they are not eligible to reGeive state benefits and have a membership of SOO+. We have a membership with Fareshare, a national food reduction charity. Our work with the Local authority increases in providing mentoring support for young people who are not in mainstream education either because of school refusal or they have been pennanently excluded. We have also seen an Incrèase in parents home schooling thèir children due a lack of confidence in the education system and turning to us for support advice and assistance. This year we have partnered with Bournemouth University on some research projècts and our young people have made a film in partnership with Christchurch Cornrnunity partnership and the media department at BU on what it is like being a young person growing up in Christchurch. The plan Is for this film to be shown in local schools and for the film to promote discussion amongst a wider scope of young people across the Christchurch area. We have done more work this year promoting Youth voice by involving young people in our decision and planning process. Our young people havo established a formal youth adviso board.
