OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Public benefit
Some benefits of JGF working with people suffering from feelings of Isolation and Loneliness
-
The opportunity and environment to talk about their loneliness problems and isolation issues with the effect that after sharing their concerns the problem is often not as overwhelming as they originally thought and where frequently solutions are found where none were first thought possible. Without this support the problem often becomes all-consuming which may lead to a spiral of distress, depression and possible serious physical and mental illness or suicide.
-
Relieves the pressure on the NHS.
-
Relieves the pressure at Doctors' surgeries.
-
Relieves the pressure on the mental health services
-
Just Good Friends would always provide a source of help and support when people are victims of crime.
When planning the activities for the year, the trustees have considered the commissions guidance on public benefit and in particular the trustees have considered how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives they have set.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position and reserves policy
JGF had approximately 200 members in October 2025.
In viewing the JGF membership numbers one should take into account that it is a transient membership and that when the healing process is complete people return to the community as whole individuals. As whole individuals they then play a full role within the community although most retain close links with JGF even if they don't necessarily renew their membership. Since its formation in 2012, many hundreds of people have passed through the JGF doors.
Reserves are needed to bridge the gap between spending and receiving of income and to safeguard services. The trustees consider that the ideal level of reserves to support this is circa £57,000.
The key elements of the general running expenses against which the reserves policy is implemented in order to safeguard the proper provision of the services required by its members are: -
-
Office and Room Hire -9 months- £4,000
-
Employment Cost - 9 months - £41,000 - Other costs £12,000 Total £57,000
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
The recruitment, selection and subsequent induction of a new trustee into JGF we see as an opportunity to improve the effectiveness of the charity and when all these three elements work properly it can lead to a balanced, well informed, and effective trustee body that can result in a well governed and effective charity.
The trustees do not receive any remuneration.
The key elements governing the selection of any new appointment are: -
-
A primary interest in the well-being of the lonely and isolated.
-
The possession of a skill or capability that would be useful in helping provide solutions for loneliness and isolation.
-
A talent for originating applications for donor grants.
-
A talent for fund raising.
Organisational structure
The charity's governing structure comprises of a board of trustees, of which there are seven as at October 2025, assisted by a small management team.
The operational management of the Charity is directed by the Chief Executive Officer of JGF who reports to the JGF Board of Trustees.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS for the Year Ended 31ST OCTOBER 2025
1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, with the exception of investments which are included at market value, as modified by the revaluation of certain assets.
Going concern
The financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis under the historic cost convention. The trustees consider the use of the going concern basis of accounting is appropriate. The charity has net assets of £89,155 (2024: £87,171) and a net surplus of £1,984 in the year (2024: deficit of £769).
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties relating to events or conditions that may cause significant doubt about the ability of the Charity to continue as a going concern.
Financial reporting standard 102 - reduced disclosure exemptions
The charitable company has taken advantage of the following disclosure exemption in preparing these financial statements, as permitted by FRS 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland':
- the requirements of Section 7 Statement of Cash Flows.
Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Tangible fixed assets
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.
Fixtures and fittings - 25% on cost Computer equipment - 33% on cost
Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
