**Hurricane Sports Foundation Charity Report 2022/23** ## **Introduction** ## _Who we are_ Hurricane Sports Foundation is a registered charity based In Lincoln UK outreaching across the East and East Midlands region. The below information outlines the programmes/projects that HSF are currently involved in and the board’s vision. ## _What we do_ Hurricane Sport Foundation delivers life changing projects and programmes in conjunction with local communities, parish councils, sports clubs and education centres in the East and East Midlands regions. HSF engage and inspire the local community with the aim of improving the quality of life and experiences across the community. HSF activities and programmes are aimed at increasing participation across sport, exercise, physical activity and education in tots to over 50’s. The activities and programmes will also mentor individuals as well as providing further opportunities. ## _Vision_ Delivering sport, physical activity, exercise and education to the local community. ## _Mission_ Every person has the opportunity to succeed using the power of sport, physical activity and exercise to improve education and build important life skills ## _Benefits_ The benefits of the aims and purposes of the charity are to increase healthy lifestyles in the general population, to enhance their social skills and increase their quality of life. ## _Aims and Purpose_ The Charities aims and purposes are to: 1. Set up and deliver health programmes 2. Set up and deliver educational programmes 3. Set up and deliver community programmes 4. Provide affordable sport and education for all. 5. Build a more active, inclusive and healthier community. 6. Engage local communities. 7. Increase sporting participation across local communities. 8. Progress individuals and groups through sport and education. 9. Provide opportunities that empower and engage all participants. 10. Promote or assist in promoting community participation in healthy recreation. 11. Provide coaching and competition to connect education and the local community. 12. Inspire all generations to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. ## _Objects_ The objects of the charity (objects) are, without reference to race, sex, creed or social background, for the benefit of children, students and adults in Lincolnshire and other counties in the East and East Midlands: 1) To advance the education of the public in the subject of sport and physical recreation and the provision of facilities, courses, training programmes and resources to enable, assist and encourage the education of persons in sport and physical activity. 2) The promotion or provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said persons. ## **Governance and Structure** In May 2016 Hurricane Sports Foundation was founded by CEO Gary Johnson and was recorded with 11 trustees. The foundation still has 11 trustees active. The CEO reports to the board of trustees and carries out the day to day management. HSF seeks the appointment of new Trustees from within the organisation. It seeks to identify those considered suitable to provide a balance of skills and strengths. All Trustees are already familiar with the practical work of the charity. On appointment, Trustees are informed of their obligations and the main documents which set out the operational framework of the charity. The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurances against fraud and error. The trustees are of the opinion that the reserves and known subsequent income are sufficient for at least short to medium term financial requirements. ## **Charity Activities 22/23** Covid 19 was still impacting this years delivery however We have continued with our partnerships with local councils they are Saxilby, Bracebridge Heath and Heighington. Across the community we also worked with Horncastle HC, Newark HC and Lindum HC to deliver regular hockey sessions within the clubs. These sessions are delivered across 4 evenings and support all 3 clubs with their development and growth. The summer hockey league returned with a 10 week programme that engaged around 600 players weekly. In the community HSF also have the affiliated running club with England Athletics – Hurricane Striders this has its own committee structure with 35 attendees throughout the year. The club are meeting weekly again and continue to go from strength to strength with their delivery programme. Education continued in 2022/23 with HSF engaging with 10 schools prior to Christmas 2022 but we decided due to staffing changed to remove the education programme from January 2021 until we have new trained staff in place to be able to deliver an education programme that meets our charity standards. We were delighted to be invited to the Festival of Sport event in Norfolk this was a national sporting event where we delivered the hockey zone for families across the country. This event helped market the charity to a wider audience and support families with opportunities to take part in sporting activities they do not usually engage with. The event was attended by 2000 people across the 3 days and was a huge success for our team.
