All the cash banl(ings have been r6vièwed, but there Is a risk that not all of the cash is bankedlrecorded. This is a common risk to such Income that the Trustees should keep und6r review with segregation of duties assisting. In counlry expendlturelpotty cash: Much of th8 8xpenditure is made in local currency in country, as is to be expected in thls environment. The Treasurer usually takes the cash out of her own bank account (as is most economlcal and Is reimbursed). In country expenditure is then evidenced where possible, and payments are Inltlalled by two people. Ther8 ar8 risks to such a system, where all payments are not evidenced. Additionally, the use of the Treasurerfs own account is not ideal, but understood in this circumstance. Th8 division of duties is helpful in this respect, and the dual Inltlalllng of expenditure beneficial. The trustees should keep a close revigw of the in- country costslsupportldocumentation to be assured that funds are properly spenl. Trustees have been appointed for their educatlonal, financi8l and fund raislng skills. They will serve for one year and then stand for re-election. All trustees are required to undergo a DBS check and child protection pollcles are in place. PoliGy decisions are made by th8 trust8es who meet at least 3 times a yearfor this purpose. Docisions in Malawi may be made by local EducationalAdvisers only with the 8pproval of the trusteos. Objectives The objectives of the charity are,, To improve prlmary educ8tion practice in rural areas of Malawi To provide children in thesg areas with the opportunityto engage In learnlng actlvities inside and outside the classroom To provide confidence In the Malawi teachers to train and work with each other PubliG Ben8fit The beneficlaries of the charity 8re currently Primary school chlldren in th8 23 schools in the Bandawe and Chlntheche zones, Nkhata Bay, Malawi. Ten students are sponsored through secondary education Bicycles for s8lected teachers withln the primary schools Performance Schoolsupport Educational Resources Educational resources were sourced locally and dlstributed to all schools withln the zones School in a Bag 100 bags were distributed to pupils in the Chintheche zone" theyw8re chosen for their attainment and sttendance. Sponsored School8 We now have 6 UK schools sponsorlng schoDLs In Ma18wi. We used this money to provide educatlonal resources as well as other specific requir6rn8nts. Kapesca School received £6500 est. donation to bulld a classroom Summer Programme A group of 11 volunteers and trustees visited in July l August 2024 and provided teachlngto children and teachers In both zones Prodigal Bikes A volunteer from Prodigal Bikes came with the teachers and maintained bikes donated by Prodigal Blkes. They also repaired a wheelchair and a few little bikes for younger children. The bik8s ar8 all used by teachers to get to School, meetings at other schools and for transporting ex8m papers etc. betwaen schools School for Hearing Impaired Money forfood had been provided 8nd money raised in m8mory of one of the founding trustees was used to provide a playground forthe children who board Sponsored Children 10 chlldren are sponsored through secondary school, each with individual sponsors in the UK. All were seen during the summer programme and school reports were received. A m8mbor of staff from the District Office visited whilst we were In M8I8Wi and recognised our achievements and support. Future Plans and challenges Continue to partnerwith Prodlgal Blkes and send out another ¢onsignment of bikes in the autumn of 2024. Buy space In a container owned by"Changing MaLawi" in ordgr to provide more resources including carpentry equipment. Develop th8 bik8 maintenance apprenticeship scheme and begin a similar carpentry apprenticeship scheme. Try to engage more with the Chintheche Zone, develop 8 working relationship with th8 new Primary Educatlon Advlser.
