## **The Wilson Centre (Long Newton) Secretary’s Report to the Trustees for the AGM 2025 28[th ] May, 2025** The Charity Trustees of the Wilson Centre CIO (hereinafter referred to as the Wilson Centre Management Team, WCMT) constitutionally comprises up to 12 members; of whom two are St. Mary’s PCC representatives and the remainder are elected members. There is also scope to co-opt. The Trustees & Cooptees for the AGM’s 2024-25 reporting year were: Danny Braun (co-optee) Ian Downing Steven Firth (Chairman) Brian Gregory (Secretary) Julie Higgins Sarah Martin (Co-optee)[1] Julie Norman (Co-optee) Kelly Peare (Co-optee) Heather Sadd (Treasurer) Hira & Rashpal Singh (Co-optees) George Stewart (Co-optee) Janet Stewart (Co-optee) Barry Thompson (Vice Chairman)[2] Brian Wake Subject to mutual assent, Co-optees may convert to Trustees (at the next AGM) and/ or be additionally recruited in due course to ensure future maintenance of Team size. The WCMT met six times in 2024-25. The management & maintenance of the Centre remains under constant review by the WCMT: the four-person ‘Progress Group’ continued to liaise on an ad hoc basis in intervening months (with other Team members co-opted from time-to-time as appropriate). Recruitment of additional Trustees remains a top priority. The WCMT has in place all requisite policies to ensure that good Centre management occurs; as mandated under the requirements of our Hallmark Level 2 award gained in 2014. The Committee continues to work towards accreditation to Level Three. Annual Returns continue to be submitted under our CIO status, as required by the Charities Commission. The Centre remains a member of both Tees Valley Rural Action (previously Tees Valley Rural Community Council) & Tees Valley Village Halls Network. Team members attended meetings of these bodies as appropriate; helping keep the WCMT up-to-date with both legislation and current issues affecting village halls. During the '24-'25 financial year, wear-and -tear and weather degradation necessitated kitchen area flat roof replacement and exterior brickwork repairs (water ingress prevention), centre deep-clean & ground-source heating system service. The Centre was well-patronised in 2024-5. Exercise/ yoga etc & Saturday dance classes continued. Two Disco Events were successfully trialled by Sarah Martin & Julie Martin. Very successful September _Little BIG Breakfast,_ October _Hallowe'en 'Spooktacular'_ , & December _Christmas Tree Lighting_ & _Sleeping Beauty & The Beast_ ( _Pantomime)_ events were staged; along with others including a July MOR-Ukes Charity Concert, Rural Arts-subsidised November _'The Plot Thickens'_ theatre night & a February _Little BIG Breakfast._ were staged. None of the events that took place would have been possible without the dedicated hard work of our caretakers, Paul Boardman (who is also Centre Supervisor) & Kerry Weir, who ensure the presentation of the Wilson in its best light whether for private bookings, classes or business meetings. The WCMT welcomes feedback from users of the Centre and the community. Other village businesses and organisations are kept informed of the dates of planned WCMC events to minimise the risk of diary clashes. 1Sarah Martin & 2Barry Thompson respectively retired in late early 2025/ late 2024 respectively due to moves to properties outside the village.
