1.19|**Two Day Trips were organised in April**
**and October. The first was to Gawthorpe**
**Hall, stopping en route at the ever**
**popular Boundary Mill. The later one was**
**to Rochdale to see the recently**
**completed conservation work on the**
**Town Hall. It also included a visit to the**
**Pioneers Museum – birthplace of the Co-**
**operative Society. Both were very**
**successful.**
**The Friends organised a Talk to be given**
**to members just weeks before the trip to**
**Rochdale. It was given by the**
**conservator in charge of the work done**
**on the Rochdale Town Hall so that we**
**knew what to look for when we visited.**
**We applied for and received Gift Aid.**
**£3,900 was paid so that the Lancashire**
**County Council Conservation Studios**
**could begin conservation work on a**
**Richard Ansdell painting, ‘Startled Deer’.**
**When the work was complete an event**
**was organised to display and celebrate it.**
**Individuals attending this successful,**
**well attended function could see how**
**worthwhile our work is in raising funds**
**for conservation. Being held in the Town**
**Hall it also created an opportunity for**
**viewing other artworks belonging to the**
**Collection.**
**Two Newsletters were sent out to**
**members and interested parties – A5**
**printed booklets– and as always were**|
|||**produced in May and November.**
**Contained in them are reports of recent**
**activities of the Friends and of any**
**connected with the Lytham St Annes Art**
**Collection. They may also contain news**
**of members, articles about artists,**
**donors and reports of individuals who**
**have been in touch with the Friends via**
**our Contact Page on our website.**
**We get good feedback, they are very**
**popular.**
**Later in the year Christmas cards and**
**Calendars were printed and sold.**
**The researchers on our committee dealt**
**with all enquiries which came in to us via**
**our Contact Page on our website. Among**
**them there were four from the USA and**
**one from Hong Kong. This demonstrates**
**how we get interest internationally. We**
**receive messages for a variety of**
**reasons. Individuals often want**
**information about an artwork they**
**possess and several paintings have been**
**donated as a result.**|

whole.|Para 1.20|**During 2024 we managed to maintain a**
**membership of 180+. We lost some and**
**recruited some. It was felt we did well as**
**all associations seemed to be struggling**
**to get new members and volunteers.**
**Several Talks were given throughout the**
**year by one of our committee who spoke**
**to other organisations about different**
**aspects of our Collection. A donation is**
**always given and much interest**
**generated in our Collection.**
**Sadly, one of our Trustees died, Christine**
**Cockburn, and the family set up a**
**Memorial Fund with all the donations to**
**be given to the Friends. With all the**
**money collected it was decided to buy a**
**painting to donate to the Collection in her**
**memory.**
**A new website was commissioned and a**
**50% deposit paid. The online Catalogue**
**website needed updating technically as**
**well as the content being updated and**
**will be presented in a way to improve**
**viewing on mobile phones and laptops as**
**well as PCs.**
**Work began on creating a new Gallery in**
**the local Georgian Lytham Hall**
**specifically to enable artworks from the**
**Lytham St Annes Art Collection to be**
**displayed. We feel this is an achievement**
**because we have been campaigning for**
**one for a long time.**
**The Hall is a listed building and gets**
**many visitors all year round.**
**The Friends received items to be donated**
**to the Collection. Although Fylde Council**
**are the custodians, the Friends are the**
**‘face’ of the Collection and almost all**
**donations come in via the Friends.**
**Handed over altogether were: an**
**architect’s drawing, a watercolour given**
**by the artist’s daughter, two engravings**
**and three watercolours by a local artist.**
**It was wonderful to learn that one of our**
**members, recently deceased, had left for**|
**us in her will a bequest of £12,297.95p. It was determined that it would be put to good use. Sales of the 2023 edition of our printed Catalogue throughout the year have been pleasing. Money spent during 2024 was considerable for us being a small charity. Apart from the deposit for a new website we paid for the conservation of a painting. Only a small amount was paid for a picture to donate to the Collection after a chance sighting of it in a local second hand shop. Quite a sum is spent every year on the maintenance of two websites, on insurance and on printing costs. With an elderly membership, the Friends still send out printed letters and leaflets to members so incur postage costs in spite of the majority being hand delivered.**
