The Charity Commission will be notified of these changes when they come into effect The Charity Trustees met twice during 2021 in May and November wth all actions formally minuled. Agendas were issued prior to the meetings and minLrtes issued and approved by the trustees at the next meeting. The North Cyprus banking system still does not facilitate Standing Orders. The Charity appreciates the regular monthly stewardship with donors setting up Standing Orders from their UK banks directly to the Charity account, most with Gift Aid declarations. We very much appreaate the seasonal visrtor5 setting up standing orders as they then become year round regular stewards of St Andrew. The Church UK Charity makes regular stewardship straightforward. Regular donations can be made by Standing Order by any church member those who pay UK tax can Gfft Aid but anyone who hs a UK bank account can regularty donate by Standing Order. At the end of 2021 there were 15 regular monthly or quarterly donors. The Chartty mission is to Promote the ministry and work of St Andrew's Church Kyrenia Cyprus by raising. holding and dispersing funds to build the mission and work of St Andrews Church Kyrenia within the Anglican Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf in the Episcopal Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East The Charriy supports the work of St Andrews promoting the ministry to the whole community in a number of ways. Three Anglican services are held each week but during periods leading up to special festivals additional servI￿S are arranged. In addition guest Christian congregations from other denominations utilise the facilities that the thurch can provide. All are welrA)me to all services. A variety of courses and programs are held to fvrther ministry work and to encourage members of the congregalion lo develop their faith. Every effort is made to ensure all members of the communrty can benefit. Lent programs and bible studies are held in both the Church, the Hall and homes. Members of the congregation and families from the communtty are encouraged to come forward for Baptism and Confirmation. Fellowship is built through social gatherings and events, wrth infomiation being disseminated to the community through our active webstte, social media, local press, church magazine and our Servi￿ sheets. He retumed to Ireland bLrt in October 2021 he return8d to lead St And￿w$ as Priest in Charge. The Covid pandemic and local isolation regulations forced the closure of the Church for most of 2020. Thankfully the regular standing order stewardship to the UK charity continued. In 2021 there was a retum to church worship with restrictions on face masks and social distancing limiting the number who could be accommodated. This was not a problem as visitor numbers were well down. Only four Gift Aid envelope donations W￿re received in 2021. All trustees have seen and agreed the attached report. To love God. to love each other and to love our neighbours St Andrew's Church Kyrenia Reports for the Annual Church Meeting - 24th April 2022 WARDENS, REPORT 2021. Our year opened with SANDY ORAM & STUART HILLIARD as Church Wardens. They had navigated St Andrew's through 2020 - 9 months of "lockdown" culminating in a brief "windov/' _ or, more accurately, "false dawn" around Christmas when we managed a few services, including a Carol Service, with the aid of the Rev. AndrewTatham who was spending the Xmas holiday with his daughter & her family. But, within a few days, the local Covid situation deteriorated, and we went back into total "lockdown" and, once again, services were suspended until mid-june, when re-started with carefully spaced seats and a maximum capacity of about 35. On occasions we welcomed the Rev. Justin Arnott {who handled a double Christening with some dexterity) and other clergy from St Paul's Cathedral, Nicosia. But, from time-to-time services were slightly more D.l.Y. We struggled to achieve a quorum for our 2021 ACM - which was delayed until June - when James Gibbs was elected to replace Stuart Hilliard, who had completed his 4-year spell of duty. Fr. Michael Graham was welcomed back in early September, and laterthat month Archbishop Michael conducted his licensing, which was court-yard. Christmas 2021 was more normal than in 2020, and we were again supported by the Rev. Andrew Tatham oh is annual family visit. Memorial Garden. A donor kindly financed the installation of a watering system for the Memorial Rose Garden. Fire Alarms. A new Fire Alarm system was installed on both levels by JEMT(SI. uin uennial Re orts. Instructed by JEMT{S), Quinquennial Reports were commissioned for both 5t Andrew's Church and The Hermitage. There are 5-yearly "maintenance condition" reports on both properties. This year, the necessary rectification work is quite demanding and is the responsibility of the PCC- but with, it is to be hoped, some generou5 SUPPOrt from JEMT{S). Covid-19. INCOMING TREASURER'S REPORT The combined balances in our TRNC accounts amount to approx £25,000 in a mixture of TL and Sterting. The UK charity account currently sits at almost £60.000. This may seem like a very comfortable position. and indeed we are very lucky that it is so. We must remember. however, that there may be significant costs to be incurred in repairs and maintenance to both the church and the Hennitage. quotes for which are awaited. Giving has seen a significant drop over the last couple of years and is certainly insufficient to support a new incumbent once Fr Michaels very beneficial arrangement finishes. We need to focus therefore this year on increasing our income in all the ways and by all the means that we traditionally used to, and to trying to spread the word and the news of St Andrews as widely as possible to attract those who we may not yet be reaching. The lerms 'PR' and 'Marketing' are not ones which most of us instinctively associate with church but they arejust as vilal to us as to any other organisation, particularly in these difficult times and any ideas you have for things we can do lo attract more potential new members will be invaluable. For the coming year. we will be tying a new model for Treasury and Accounting. There are two main aims to try to spread the vrforkload by more appropriate use of our people to ty to simplify the processes and papenvork to lighten the load whilst retaining good practice. To this end, Leo has very kindly offered to help with the 'bookkeeping' part of the job and the cash control, which is predominantly Sunday-based. John Brown has generously offered to help teach him what we do and how we do it. Tony Kyte has offered us use of a spreadsheet model which he has developed specifically for the purpose. and to teach us all how to use it. Leo and I will jOin￿Y fill the Treasury role officially. John and Tony. hopefully. On￿ we have got the new system settled in, will be able to take a back seat again. I shall nol be back in TRNC until September. unfortunately. but I will be working with them actively to try to ensure that all is working well and that we're able to provide the information that Council needs accurately and in a timely manner. Finally, I'd like to thank Sally Burt and the wardens. without whose constsnt support all this would be so much more difFicult. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitste to let me know. Contact details will be published very shordy after the meeting, I'm sure. Shane Barnes

Repeat donations are possible to a maximum of £30/day. st Attached are the Charity Accounts for the year ending December 31 2021 The Balance held by the Charity on 31. December 2021 in the Charity Unity Trust Bank was £58,248.54. The Charity income in 2021 was far below £25,000 and the level of 2020. The Ch3rity Commission guidelines did not require them to be independently examined as they were last year. Income in 2021- £ 9,415.39 Regular standing order donation income was £7,212.80 down from £10.525.20 last year. Nearly all was gift aided. Regrettably the number of donors has dropped as people have left our fellowship and withdrawn their support. There were no one off donation5 in 2021. There were no "in Church" Gift Aid envelopes in 2021. From the regular Standing Ordor donatton& two 8rft Aid claims were submitted in 2021. HMRC paid £1,702.59 Gift Aid to the Charity on these claims. Two donors continue to make their regular donation5 through the Diocese Foundation. They are not Gift Aided and the Foundation transferred the sum of £500 to the Charity just before the year end.

Expenditure in 2021- £3.811.17 All payments made by the Charity were at the request of council 3nd in accordance with the Charity purposes and governing document At the request of Council and with the agreement of the Trustees. Revd Michael expenses £500/month were paid by SO in the UK commencing October 2021, a total of £1.500. The St Andre￿5 Diocesan contribution of £2438 at a cost of £2,133.17 was paid by the Charity and transferred to the Diocese Cyprus account in Euro. The Diocese UK Sterling account has been closed. As no collection was possible, at council request £100 was paid to the World Day of Prayer. The Unity bank service charges for the year were £78. Early each month Charity transaction statements are forwarded to the Church treasurer. The Charity and Unity Banking Facility has proved extremely valuable to our church in many ways. It provides an on line confidential record of all donations confidential to your Treasurer and Gift Aid Officer. Multi signature on line approval of all transactions is ensured. Once the trustees agree an expenditure, one trustee prepares a banking instruction and a second trustee is required to authorise before payment. I would like to use thls annual opportunity to thank all donors, however you, donate, for your continued support for the work and mission of St Andrews. I thank the Charity trustees for their patience and commitment. The trustees act to 5epde our Church. It is clear from the accounts that the current regular income to the Charity is insufficient for your council to balance income from donors with expenditure for a Chaplain, even a "House for Duty" incumbent. It will cost approximately £I.000 each month if an apartment 15 rented and expenses are paid. Dr John Worton-Griffiths GÉft Aid Officer and Chairman of Trustees April 2022

CHURCH MAGAZINE 2021 The magazine continued to be produced month by month digitalty and was made available to all via the St Andrew's website. It was very drffiojlt to prepare articles directly related lo life in St Andrew's for two reasons: there was no life in St Andrew's while the church was closed and, I was in the UK, very disconnected from life in the TRNC generally. I found what I thought were items of interest, I have not re￿iVed any criticism. And l introduced an item called Notes from Kibris and Kent to reflect what was happening that affected me in both places. As always. l appreciate any items you may want to share with our readers. Anne Lloyd DIOCESE OF CYPRUS AND THE GULF SYNOD FEBRUARY 2022 This was the second Diocesan Synod to be held on Zoom, and l attended as an Observer on behalf of The Association of Friends of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf. There were over 70 participants from across the Diocese and beyond. celebrating as full a sense of fellowship as possible through the small screen. There was worship, discussion. evening social events, and meetings of Houses of Clergy and Laity, as well as spirttual addresses by the Synod Guest Speaker the Rev'd Canon Dr Rachel Mash. Rachel is an Environmental Coordinator of the Anglican Church of Southem Africa, Secretsry to the Anglican Communion Environmentsl Network and a member of the Season of Creation steering group, so it was not surprising that the theme of this year's synod was Scripture and Caring for Creation. Reports came from all around the diocese along with news from Thika and Exeter, our companion dioceses and Archbishop Michael reported on his programme as Primate of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. Also on the agenda were reports by Joel Kelling on the Anglican Alliance and the Mission to Seafarers. Canon lan Calder reported on the Association of Friends, Sibella Laing and Susan Cooper reported on behalf of the Cyprus and the Gulf Foundation and Bishop Anthony Ball. reported on the Jerusalem and the Middle East Church Association (JMECA). More details on the above can be found on the Diocesan website s￿ne at Synod. along with the Diocesan accounts for 2021 and a summary of The Very Reverend and Venerable Dr Bill Schwartz, OBE life in our diocese on the occasion of his retirement after 40 years servi￿. Anne Lloyd CHURCH HALL REPORT The Church Hall was reopened in July 2021, after a long closure due to the Govemment Re>lil¢Uon3. Uiiforiunatgly, mosi ov ine previous Groups had relocated to other venues and have not returned despite the rental charge being left at the same as before. There are now two Groups using the Hall regulady, with one Group having three meetings per week. Access to the kitchen has not yet been included to the Groups. again because of Government Restrictions, although bottled water is still available. The BRS used the Hall for their usual Christrnas Drinks Event. which was well patronised. On Palm Sunday, refreshments after the servi￿ wer& served forthe first time and this will continue on the first Sunday of the month for the following three months. After this time, the Church Council will review the situation wtth regard to having refreshments more often if popul2r,

and the availabilty of Volunteers warrant it. It is planned to reopen the Church shop again during the coffee momings. and to this end. would like volunteers to manage this. l am still looking for a Kitchen Manager to work alongside me, and am still hopeful of finding someone to take over completely as Hall ManageT!! I would like to thank Lee Hickens and his wrfe. Jan. for their work in the Church. Hall and grounds and for the hard working volunteers who help in the kitchen. Sally Birt. Church Hall Manager. DIRECTOR OF MUSIC As Covid restrictions and lengthy lock downs played havoc with plans for much music making in the year 2021 il is comforting to note that nomiality is retuming. However, we were able to hold our Annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols in December, joined by members of Kyrenia Chamber Choir. ReGently we benefitted again from KCC augmentation as we celebrated Easter Day. l am ever grateful for the voluntary cooperats'on and assistance of organist. sequencer operative and the support of council colleagues throughout the year. One very rewarding aspect of my role is in selecting appropriate hymns in order to reflect the seasonal Sunday by Sunday church calendar. It is an ongoing privilege to work with Fr Michael who is appreciative , understanding and sympathetic of the work undertaken by musicians. Earl Moffitt Director of Music

Mlnutes of ACM held on Sunday 4° July 2021 were approved (proposed by Sandy O, seconded by Jacqueline M). There were no matters arising Rev Mike gave the Chaplain's reporL' INCUMBENTS REPORT-APRIL 2022 Little did I think when I went back to Ireland in January 2020, after acting as Locum here in St. Andrew's for 20 months. to be with Janet and to buy a new home there that just over 2 years later I would once again be sitting down to write a Chaplain's Report for St. Andrew's, Kyrenia. The last titne I did this- in Apnl of 2019 -1 wrote..

.1 have to say that this is a task which I thought I'd left behind me some three years ago- chairing an Annual Meeting of a parish and giving an "In¢umbent's" Reporti Last year l attended one such meeting for the first time in two of those years - the meeting here in St. Andrews. And what an eventful year it's been since then." Well, it seems that plus p change and here l am again, and the only wording I would change from that last Senten￿ would be.. "What an ev&ntful TWO years it's been Sin￿ then.. Lrke so many of us Janet and I became °stuck°. as it were, by the outbreak of Covid19 and were unable to return here to the TRNC for some 20 months, finally managing to get back at the erKI of August 2021. And sadly, the pandemic ravaged the world. bringiThJ misery in so many different ways to people.. mentally. socially, though illness, economic hardship and for some the tragedy of losing someone they love. And even though it seems to have eased in some countries, in others it still has the same effect. He￿ in Sl. Andrews, as in mt)st places, the church effectively became closed as restrictions on movement and social interaction were imposed to try to contain the disease. As I said many of use became stuck Whe￿Ver we were when the pandemic struck and the country in which we found ourselves was closed. Visitors ￿8$ed and the economic result on countries such as here in what is the adopted home for many of us was and still is horrendous. But there were those who looked on such events in the church as an opportunity to try new ways of reaching those who wefe Crying out for spiritual sustenance. Many churches, including my old parishes back in Ireland, produced weekly videos which could be watch in the comfort of your own home - and Ihe semion, if it became too borin9, could be skipped overl Other broadcast seN1￿8 using 50¢ial media such as Zoom which could be joined by people - again in the comfort of their own home. And here, in St. Andrew's. we were indebted to Sleve and Sally Bishop who prodU￿d an eleclronic fom) of servits which could be emailed to those who rèquested il. For that we thank them most sincerely. But, rf I may, I'd like to go back to our retum to the TRNC after a long, enforced absen￿. Instead of becoming swallows, as Janet and I had hoped, I was persuaded to come back wtth an official title." Priest-in-charge of the parish with those three little letters after that title which have confused quite a number of people. SSM., which stands for Self-supporting-ministy. What THAT means, for those who may nol know, is that I'm here as Priest-in£harge but r￿1ve no remuneration for the task, other than an expense alIt)Wan￿ each month to offset the cost of using my own car, telephone elc., and live in my own home. In return I'm supposed to be available for some 12 hours a week and to conduct services on Sundays and Holy Days and a mid-week service on Thursday. That bit seems to be more honoured in the breach than the observancÈl The official designation for such a role is "House for Duty.. Excepl in my case there is no "House" Of any of the rest of the things which I mentioned above which would nom)ally accompany anyone in a similar position. Now I say all this not to in any way blow my own trumpet. Far from it. I love St Andrew's arKI would do anything to support the parish - an outlook which does me no favours with my famity. No. The reason I point this out is that at this present time St. Andrew's is seeking to appoint someone to the position of Chaplain. or rather Priest-in-charge, once again.

My 'tour of duty. is for two years - OR LESS and should someone else be found and appointed then l am more than happy to step back and resume (or Janet would say, BEGIN) my retirement from parish ministry. But the important thing is that at the moment St. Andrew's is looking to appoint someone in that role under more or less the same conditions as me - except that accommodation would also have to be provided, plus a car, travel costs for a trip back to their home country, heatth cover, expense allowance etc. etc. And right now, as we'll hear in our various Treasurers, reports, the parish can't afford even that based on our weekly income from the collecting plate and from regular donations made through our UK based charrty. Add to that the condrtion in which the official accommodation for the Chaplain in St. Andrew's, the Hermitage. was left following the departure of the last Incumbent and the costs which may fall on the parish to bring that back to a livable standard, plus the ongoing Maintenan￿ costs for the church ttself, and we rAn see that, financially at least, the forthcoming Church Council will have much to exercise it dunng its temi of offi￿. l of these issues were discussed at the two open meetings which were held here in the Church Hall recerrtly. It was important that the incoming Council hear the views of those on whom St Andrew's currently relies for its flrture. This is YOUR parish, and if you, or I should say WE, want to continue the ministry which we feel God may be calling us to in this pla￿ then it is vital that support that ministry in whatever way we can - not just financially but also wtth our deeds and. this is vitally important, with our words. So often all I hear is negativity when it comes to St. Andrew's. Usually pre￿ded by words such as: 'A lot of people say...... that.... or"I've been told ° but those people never seem willing to step out of the woodwork themselves, inslead relying on hiding behind someone else. Add to that the focus on totally unimportant issues. which then get blovm out of all proportion, ar7d you Gan see why support for- and, more importantly. WTHIN - our next Church Councrl will be vital to the future {or not) of St. Andrew's. I would expect that a decision, once made by the Council, is to be supported by ALL members of the Council, whether they personally agree with il or not. And that anyone who ch005es then to deliberately go on to try to undermine that decision, especially publicly, should seriously consider their posltion as a Council member or Church Officer. So. as we begin a new year of ministry here in St. Andrew's, I woukl ask you all to pray most fervently for God to show us the direction in which we should go., to pray for the new Coun￿1 with perhaps one of the most dtfficult years in St. Andrew's recent history ahead of them." to support that Council in whatever way you can - financially and physically arKI. most imFQrtantly, in a POSITIVE m8nner. Finally. may I thank all those who have helped to hold St. Andrew's together over the past difficult monlhs. I've already thanked Steve and Sally. A special thanks to our outgoing Church Warden, Sandy Oram, and those Council Members who arA fornunaie enough to be slanding down this year= Sally Birt {who is gladly staying on as Hall Manager at least for the foreseeable future} and Jacqueline Mclntyre {who. as you now know, hasn't managed to escape at all!). A final personal thank you, rf I may. to Janet who has also effectively had lo put her retirement on hold. And to my family, especially our grandchildren, who know there's a grandad who occasionally tums up but not as often as he would like. I promise that when someone else is finally appointed as Incumbent of St. Andrew's that I'll step back- at least a little way back. Warden's report- this had been issued. There were no questions.

Flnance.. The Outgoing TreaSu￿r, Incoming Treasurer and Chainnan of the St Andrews UK charity had all issued reports in advan￿ for 2021. Joan S asked If the HMRC (Gtft Aid) refund was included in 'Other Income. and Sandy confirmed rt was. Joan asked what had happened about charitable income over the last few years and Sandy acknowledged this had been minimal due to reduced income while the church was closed. [Church income in 2021 {£13,300) had fallen to just over a third of what is was in 20191£36,000),' in the same period cash reserves had risen from £65,¢￿0 to £83,000)]. Tony K asked if accounts for 2020 had ever been produced or distributed. Sandy confirmed they had been produced but never distributed so would be sent to the Electoral Roll shortly. Tony asked about exchange rate losses and Sandy confirmed that these had been substantial over the last few years as the lira devalued despite a change in policy two years ago to hold a greater proportion of bank deposits in sterling rather than TL. Kaska asked about the costs of a new Chaplain but was told these had not yet been calculated and would be a matter for the new Council. Sandy asked rf the Paxton Software. recommended by the Diocese, would ever be used as everyone considered tt too Complicated. Mike noted how drffiCU￿ the job of treasurer had been at St Andrews in past years and thanked Sandy for (reluctantly) fulfilling this role over the last two years when no-one else was wlling to take rt on. At James G's suggestion, Sandy received a vote of thanks. Rev Mike confinned that this year there would be a 'Treasurer's Team. consisting of Shane B, John B, Tony K and Leo. Any other business The Queen's JubFIo• James G proposed that St Andrews ￿lebrated the Queen's Jubilee on the first Sunday in June by having John C play music from the coronation after the servi￿, followed by drinks on the te￿aCe. Rev Mike said John C considered that music unsuitable for the organ alone. James said he wanted to do something differenl and less expensive than other Jubilee ￿lebratIOnS. Rev Mike made clear his personal objection to any Jubilee Gelebration on the grounds thal St Andrews was not an English only church and the Queen was not head of the Cyprus Ar¢h-Diocese so therefore there was no reason for St Andrews to mark this occasion {there being plenty of other planned events in Kyrenia). There followed an increasingly emotive debate on the subject.

Steve B suggested that as this would be the last Royal Jubilee for both her majesty- given her age and health - and the current congregation, that it would be a shame not to celebrate it. He also pointed out that most of the St Andrew's congregation were in fact English and Anglican churches throughout the world would be lelxating the Jubrlee (induding our own cathedral church) Rev Mike pointed out. in ￿SpOnSe to a comment, that the Archbishop of Canterbury, as well as the Queen, had no Jurisdiction over the provin￿ of Jerusalem and the Middle East or any of the other 40 Anglican Provinces in 165 countries, other than the Church of England. Tony K suggested the meeting be polled to detemiine how many would like St Andrews to ￿lebrate the Jubilee in some w￿Y', Diana asked that those wanting to lebrate rt would be wlling to also organise it,- Sandy suggested any celebration should not l￿ on a Sunday as the wOr1￿lde Jubilee date will be Thursday 2. June. Rev Mike noted that it was up to the Church Council, not the ACM, to decide how or if to mark the Jubilee and again expressed his view that St Andrews should not be known as "The English Church.. Joan S commented that il always had been and was still considered to be so as everything was conducted in English and the vast maJority of attenders were English. This was followed by a show of hands that demonstrated an almost unanimous desire for St Andrews to mark the Queen's Jubilee in some way. James again offered to organise it. Stuart H proposed a vote of thanks for his wife, Lynda, for her past and ongoing work in preparing the weekly Few sheet. This was duly given. 14. The meeting concluded wtth The Grace
