## **ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2024** 


## **SUMMARY OF OBJECTS** 

- (i) to promote high standards of planning and architecture in or affecting the area of benefit; 

- (ii) to educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area of benefit; 

- (iii) to secure the preservation protection development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area of benefit, including parks, open spaces, footpaths and facilities for recreation, health, education and transport; 

- (iv) to promote civic responsibility and good citizenship in the area of benefit by the dissemination of information on local matters affecting the community and the organisation of community related activities, including but not limited to regular newsletters and electronic messaging, educational talks and competitions to encourage student participation.

## **REPORT ON THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES BY OBJECT** 

## **Object 1. To promote high standards of planning and architecture in or affecting the area of benefit:** 

- The Planning Panel continued to evaluate and make representations with regards to Planning Applications with emphasis on high standards and of ensuring that developments were in-line with the local plan. 

- The Society made comments during consultations on the draft of the local council’s new Local Plan and its supporting guidelines notably the proposed Design Code. 

- The Society acted as a Rule 6 Party in a Public Inquiry on a major development project adjacent to Weybridge. 

## **Object 2. To educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area of benefit:** 

- A small number of miscellaneous activities took place in this Object Area during the reporting year.

## **Object 3. To secure the preservation protection development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area of benefit, including parks, open spaces, footpaths and facilities for** 

## **recreation, health, education and transport:** 

- The Society continued to work with Surrey Councils on its plans for the development of a community hub in the centre of Weybridge based on the refurbishment of the existing library building. 

- The Society continued its work on its Healthy Travel initiative to study and promote more cycling and walking in the town initiating a project to evaluate and improve the walking and cycling route network. 

- The Society liaised with the NHS and Elmbridge Borough Council on the development of the new medical centre and the future use of Weybridge Hall respectively. 

- The Society responded to planning applications that would potentially have had a deleterious impact on Conservation Areas and locally listed buildings. 

- The Society sponsored a Blue Plaque to honour Helen D’Oyly Carte. 

- The Society made a financial contribution to lectern signs on a path abutting Broadwater Lake. 

- The Society supported Armistice Day, including the laying of a wreath at the War Memorial. 

- The Society continued to work with local schools and other local organisations – e.g. Weybridge in Bloom and the Men’s Shed for example. 

- The Society continued to develop and maintain planters and planting introduced last year and to identify how coordinated planting schemes can improve town identity. 

## **Object 4. To promote civic responsibility and good citizenship in the area of benefit by the dissemination of information on local matters affecting the community and the organisation of community related activities, including but not limited to regular newsletters and electronic messaging, educational talks and competitions to encourage student participation:** 

- The Society organised the highly successful 10-day long Weybridge Festival including performances from local schools and arts organisations, stalls from local charities and sports clubs and market stalls. 

- The Society issued over 20 bulletins covering local events and issues of interest to members.

Independent examiners report to the trustees of Weybridge Society
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Weybridge Society Ithe"Charity"I for
the year ended 3F' December 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act 20111'the Act'l. I report in respect of my examination of the Charity s
accounts carried out under section145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed
all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section14515Xbl of the Act.
Independent examiners statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in
connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect..
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section130 of the Act;
or
the accounts do not accord with those records.
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content
of the accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any
requirement that the accounts give a Irue and fair view which is not a matter considered as part
of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which
attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be
reached.
