The Friends of Calverley Grounds have ensured the public park is a place that benefits inhabitants of Tunbridge Wells by raising money and building a playground in the park, funded by residents, businesses and grants. This provides a much-needed play space for families to bring their children.

The Friends of Calverley Grounds continues a programme of community gardening invigorating some under planted spaces.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main The Friends of Calverley Grounds group was all but inactive in the year. achievements of the charity We still held funds from fund raising activity in earlier years but no during the year membership subscriptions were raised in the near, nor will we seek subscriptions in 2023-24. We applied for and received a grant from a South Eastern Water fund, available to local charities and organisations, as part of a community compensation for water supply failures in the year. We allocated the monies to a larger project which provided a ‘water bottle filling station’ adjacent to Calverley Adventure Grounds. The work was carried out on behalf of TWBC Parks Dept. (The invoice will be included in next year’s accounts). Also in 2024 the Trustees also propose to provide finance to support TWBC Parks Dept in the provision of new and renewed play equipment in the ’basketball court’ hard standing area in the Grounds. Small group of former committee members have also agreed to support ‘Art in the Park’ alongside the Puppetry festival later in 2024. We will provide some funding for pens, paints etc. Through these activities into 2024-25, and while funds last, the Trustees together with TWBC Parks Dept, hope to find ways to re-invigorate the Friends, and to attract and encourage a new generation of supporters to carry on the valuable community activities.
