Aims and Objectives
At Doms Food Mission, our heartfelt aim is to prevent surplus in-date food from being wasted, instead redirecting it to individuals and families who face the daily challenge of food insecurity. This not only nourishes our community but also honours our environment by reducing waste.
Governance, Structure and Management
Doms Food Mission operates under rules of its constitution adopted in April 2016.
Doms Food Mission is a Charitable Incorporated Association first registered with the Charity Commission in May 2016. The charities principle aim is to actively collect and distribute surplus in date food throughout Hastings and surrounding areas.
Trustees are elected to the Board of Doms Food Mission at the Annual General Meeting ( AGM ) in accordance and requirements of the constitution. Trustees are elected for a period of three years with retirements on a rolling basis. Retiring trustees are eligible for re-election. All trustees give their time freely and no trustee remuneration are paid during the term for the role of trustee. Trustees are for guidance with the day to day operations executed by the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ).
Daily management is under the jurisdiction of Dom Warren ( CEO ) with tasks and duties carried out by a team of volunteers.
Brief History of Doms Food Mission
Doms Food Mission was born from the compassionate hearts of Dom and Alex Warren, who were deeply troubled by the rising food insecurity in their hometown of Hastings, East Sussex. In May 2015, they embarked on their mission to tackle food poverty, discovering that vast amounts of surplus in-date food were being wasted. They resolved to redirect this food to those in need, thus founding Doms Food Mission.
The founders' vision is inclusive, welcoming everyone regardless of age, status, creed, or colour. They began by creating a Facebook page to share their mission and request food donations. The community responded with overwhelming generosity, enabling Doms Food Mission to provide food for over 100 individuals from the very first appeal.
Doms Food Mission continues to be a pillar of support for the community through our two food hubs located at the Doms Food Mission Hub. Our partnerships with
supermarkets and local retailers ensure regular pickups and collections, making it possible to meet the increasing demand.
Doms Food Mission Food Hub
Dom’s Food Mission (DFM) was unsuccessful in securing funding from the National Lottery, which significantly impacted the charity’s operations. Despite this set back, back in 2020 DFM continued to operate throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, recognising that suspending services during such a critical period would have adversely affected the local community.
During the pandemic, DFM was unable to organise fundraising events due to lockdown restrictions, creating additional financial strain. Many funding bodies were temporarily closed, and competition for available funding increased as numerous charities and organisations applied for limited resources.
Although DFM persevered for as long as possible and actively sought new funding opportunities, the charity ultimately faced challenges that made it unsustainable to continue its food hubs. The daily operations of such a busy and essential service require paid staff, and without adequate financial support, DFM was forced to make the difficult decision to cease running the food hubs.

Good afternoon all Wow hasn’t 9 years gone so fast and we’ve had the opportunity and pleasure to be able to help so many up! Not only just with food but try to give them some purpose once again! When DFM was set up back in 2015 from just a notepad and an idea it was always meant to try and make a small difference, just something to help another with their weight that they’re carrying or a little bit of love shown to tell them people actually care! But if you would of said to us that this would show the pathway to so many organisations, set ups, food deals, groups and charities replicating and working together towards our mission we would of probably said… “could you imagine that!”This decision has been one of the hardest but one that feels like the right time to slowly close Doms food mission in steps continuing to help others along the way with our partnerships being handed to great people and ideas over to many others too! With the lack of funding opportunities coming in and life taking different steps for us all this will end our 9 year run helping hundreds of thousands of meals ( if not more ) saved from landfill and filling so many communities with everything we have. Dom… I’m super proud and grateful for everything and everyone! Who’s supporting, backed and shown love to DFM thank you! Now is time for family time and to see my next adventure. My team and those around me mean the world to me ( us ) and I’ll never forget what we’ve accomplished together. This isn’t the end of helping others as I love my town and I’m looking forward to working on some projects. It’s just the right time for this move and whatever knowledge and experience gained over my 9years will be spent trying to help other organisations along their journey. From the first ever collection 2015 to helping children at Christmas to feeding so many! Super proud.Remember be kind, help others up and thank you all for the support! See you soon 💚 Vk, 🙏 https:// www.facebook.com/domsfoodmission/ www.domsfoodmission.com Reg charity number 1166918National Award winning charity doing our best for our community 💚 v “
DFM no longer had the DFM Hub. Knowing that many of the community enjoyed the Christmas present give out to many children and families in the community.
DFM teamed up with More Radio once again to help many children as possible feel the magic of Christmas. The gifts were dropped into the community.
DFM also teamed up with Talan and Shyla Tambeth of Talans Toys to help children who may not receive the love that others do around Christmas time.
The chosen partner was the incredible Demelza Childrens Hospice to help try and relieve some pressure from families already going through so much.
Below are supporting images.
DFM also teamed up with WHITE ROCK THEATRE who gave away pantomine tickets to see Peter Pan.
This fabulous experience handed familes some magical memories and took some pressure off those who needed a hand up.

On 13 May 2015, the founders of Doms Food Mission Charity, Dominic Warren and his wife, Alexandria Warren, embarked on a mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of as many people as possible—especially children—by rescuing surplus food from landfill and ensuring that families in need could eat. Over the years, they have cherished every moment of this journey.
What began as a simple concept sketched on a notepad has grown into an organisation that has secured significant partnerships with major retailers such as M&S, Sainsbury’s, Greggs, and many others. Through these collaborations, Doms Food Mission has been able to support children’s homes, school projects, halfway houses, women’s refuges, and numerous other community initiatives.
Doms Food Mission remains deeply thankful and fortunate for the extensive network of support that has enabled its continued work—and, above all, for the opportunity to help others.
A local Hastings couple, Dominic and Alexandria Warren, were honoured with MBEs presented by Prince William in recognition of their efforts in reducing food waste and combating poverty.

The Future of Dom’s Food Mission
It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Dom’s Food Mission. Despite our continued efforts, the charity can no longer operate without sustainable funding, and unfortunately, the financial support required to keep our services running is simply not available.
This decision has not been made lightly. Over the years, Dom’s Food Mission has worked tirelessly to reduce food waste and support individuals and families in need. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact we have made within our community, and we are deeply grateful to everyone— volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters—who has stood beside us on this journey.
While this chapter is coming to an end, the values and purpose behind Dom’s Food Mission will live on through the many people we have supported and inspired. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us make a difference.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Committee oDom's Food Mission
I report on the accounts of Dom's Food Mission for the twelve month period ended 31 March 2025 which are set out on the previous pages.
Respective responsibilities of committee & examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act), and that an independent examination is
It is my responsibility:
-
to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the supporting documentation presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair" view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, the following matters have come to my attention:
- Insufficient Physical evidence was produced to conduct an effective examination for a second consecutive year. This was mainly around the 3 Vans that had been purchased. the correct combined cost had been input into their Accounting Software but the physical paperwork was not available to verify the individual costs for each of the Vans. There has been a high turnover of staff responsible for the day to day financial management of the system and it appears that the paperwork has not been preserved during successive handovers. The second van has been sold in this financial year with the final van being disposed of in the next financial year. Support has been offered by HVA.
