Aims and Objectives
At Doms Food Mission, our heartfelt aim is to prevent surplus in-date food from being wasted, instead redirecting it to individuals and families who face the daily challenge of food insecurity. This not only nourishes our community but also honours our environment by reducing waste.
Governance, Structure and Management
Doms Food Mission operates under rules of its constitution adopted in April 2016.
Doms Food Mission is a Charitable Incorporated Association first registered with the Charity Commission in May 2016. The charities principle aim is to actively collect and distribute surplus in date food throughout Hastings and surrounding areas.
Trustees are elected to the Board of Doms Food Mission at the Annual General Meeting ( AGM ) in accordance and requirements of the constitution. Trustees are elected for a period of three years with retirements on a rolling basis. Retiring trustees are eligible for re-election. All trustees give their time freely and no trustee remuneration are paid during the term for the role of trustee. Trustees are for guidance with the day to day operations executed by the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ).
Daily management is under the jurisdiction of Dom Warren ( CEO ) with tasks and duties carried out by a team of volunteers.
Brief History of Doms Food Mission
Doms Food Mission was born from the compassionate hearts of Dom and Alex Warren, who were deeply troubled by the rising food insecurity in their hometown of Hastings, East Sussex. In May 2015, they embarked on their mission to tackle food poverty, discovering that vast amounts of surplus in-date food were being wasted. They resolved to redirect this food to those in need, thus founding Doms Food Mission.
The founders' vision is inclusive, welcoming everyone regardless of age, status, creed, or color. They began by creating a Facebook page to share their mission and request food donations. The community responded with overwhelming generosity, enabling Doms Food Mission to provide food for over 100 individuals from the very first appeal.
Doms Food Mission continues to be a pillar of support for the community through our two food hubs located at the Doms Food Mission Hub. Our partnerships with
supermarkets and local retailers ensure regular pickups and collections, making it possible to meet the increasing demand.
Review of the Activities and Achievements for the Year
Our two food hubs are busier than ever, reflecting the deep reliance our community places on these essential services. Fundraising Events
DFM Walking Warriors Pier to Pier
On the 20th May 2023 a fundraising event was organised by some of the Doms Food Mission volunteers to raise money and awareness for DFM. There was a Just Giving page set up. The challenge was walking from Eastbourne Pier to Hastings Pier, the team set off around 09.15am with guidance for the walk by Matt Edmonds AKA The Lanky Walker. The team arrived at Hastings Pier around 16.30pm all very tired and blistered. But on the way the team stopped and chatted briefly about what the team were doing for the amazing Doms Food Mission Charity and raising £460.00

Jo’s Bumblebee walk for DFM
Throughout the month of January for 31 days one of DFM volunteers Jo decided to raise money for DFM by walking 1 hour a day or more weather dependent with her young dog Callisto. Facing the extreme January weather it did not put her off with most days being completely wet and dressed up each day for the walk dressed as a bumblebee. There was a Just giving page set up and money raised in total was £259.00 and all for Doms Food Mission. Thankyou goes to the supporters.

Fundraising Challenges
A super 11 year old girl decided to raise money for Doms Food Mission through the whole of March 2024 by exercising and keeping fit. Firstly Tia let DFM know that apart fro being in a football team this was the only form of exercise and decided that she would give herself a challenge. She raised £90.00. Also a young lad James took part with his friends to complete No Sugar November, which meant no sugar or sweet items and raised a staggering £240.00.

Santas Grotto
DFM put on another amazing Santas Grottoon 22nd December 2023, completed with 122 children receiving gifts and seeing the magic of Christmas together. Santa, our volunteers, families and friends made this extra special as it was a full on day for everyone . DFM had some wonderful and kind donations of presents and helped and supported the very special evening.
The DFM team, community and More Radio and friends are all appreciated by Doms Food Mission Charity. Below are supporting images.
Doms Food Mission Christmas Day Dinner
Dom and Alex Warren the founders of this amazing charity and their children decided on Christmas Day to put on a Christmas dinner for anyone in the community who was either alone or needed a dinner and celebrate together. Especially as these times are very tough for all the community with the current cost of living crisis is was a beautiful idea and it went well. Alongside Dom and Alex there was also some of the DFM volunteers who gave their time on this day. All food was either donated by butchers, or the in date surplus food collected for a xmas dinner from our partnership with supermarkets and local food outlets.

School Harvest
DFM are always grateful to have the beautiful schools getting in touch for donations from their school harvest.
Here are local schools that got involved. The foods donated helped us reach more less fortunate families and DFM are thankful for everyone donating.

Moving Forward for DFM
DFM sadly were not successful in getting funded by the national lottery fund and has had an impact on the charity, with only running two hubs instead of five. DFM for the moment could no longer run the Helping Hand Project in the schools. But drawing on positivity the charity have wonderful volunteers and team.
DFM are looking at funding platforms to apply for funding.
DFM are planning to organise fundraising events continuously for example: charity walks, parachute jumps, coffee and cake mornings etc.
DFM will continue to recruit more volunteers.
DFM will continue to help the community in need by keeping the two food hubs running and hope to expand to more.
DFM are planning to have the Helping Hand Project back in the schools.

Dom's Food Mission Notes to the accounts For the year ended 31 March 2024
1 Sundry Income
This amount is a transfer of funds from the suspense account. The original transfer was completed in order to mirror the published accounts in Quickbooks for 31.03.2022.
2 Expendiuture
There are negative amounts in the Expenditure on the Receipts and Payment Account. This was to ensure all Restricted funds were brought to zero balances as at 31.03.23. There had been some miscoding on previous years in Quickbooks that had not been rectified.
3 Movement in Funds
In order to bring all restricted funds back to zero, a transfer at year end between Restricted and nonrestricted was made. All Restricted funds have been spent correctly. This is just so the accounts mirror reality.
4 Audit of Supporting Evidence
Supporting documentation has been audited, however there are a couple of gaps where there has been a changeover in Bookkeeping staff. Overall I am happy that there are no out of the ordinary expenditures during the year.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Committee oDom's Food Mission
I report on the accounts of Dom's Food Mission for the twelve month period ended 31 March 2024 which are set out on the previous pages.
Respective responsibilities of committee & examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act), and that an independent examination is
It is my responsibility:
-
to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act), and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the supporting documentation presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair" view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, the following matters have come to my attention:
- Insufficient Physical evidence was produced to conduct an effective examination. This was mainly around the 3 Vans that had been purchased. the correct combined cost had been input into their Accounting Software but the physical paperwork was not available to verify the individual costs for each of the Vans. There has been a high turnover of staff responsible for the day to day financial management of the system and it appears that the paperwork has not been preserved during successive handovers. This was a one off incident and the vans have all been sold in the next financial year. Training and Support has been offered by HVA. We are working with DFM to implement and imbed relevant procedures going forward.
