Brief History of Doms Food Mission
Doms Food Mission was born out of Dom and Alex warren’s concerns at seeing an ever increase problem of food insecurity within their home town of Hastings, East Sussex.
So, In May 2015 Dom and Alex began their mission to tackle the issue of food poverty, soon realising that vast amount of surplus in date food was regularly going to landfill which could be going to people in need. Doms Food Mission was born.
The ideology formed by Dom and Alex upon creating Doms Food Mission was that regardless of age, status, creed or colour all where welcome. Their first step was to set up a Facebook page explaining who they were, what the aim of Doms Food Mission was and would anyone like to donate food. The response was overwhelming with over 50 people responding to the first call with food donations that enabled DFM to supply food to over 100 people in the local community.
Doms Food Mission has continued to grow and develop five food hubs across Hastings, St Leonards on Sea and surrounding areas. With the regular pick ups/ collections from the partnerships within supermarkets and local retailers. Within 2021 and 2022 Doms Food Mission collected over 200 metric tons of food which equates to 504,000 individual meals that are saved and given out into the local community.
Review of the Activities and Achievements for the Year
Our regular partnerships continue to supply DFM with in date surplus food and the demand is continuing to increase and outstripping supply. All the five food hubs are getting busier every week and with the current Food / energy crisis at its peak DFM is recognising the reliance of the community attending the food hubs.
