Recrultmènt and appolntment of new trustees
When re¢rurting new members lo their boafd, existing trustees musl be elean In their own minds 8bDut the
charity's purpose and aims. They also need to understand their Broader duties and responsibilities as trustees, lo
ensure both that they are acting in the best interest of the charty, and that they are in a position lo explain to new
trustees what is required of them.
Trustees need lo ensure that they, rather than $laff, retain overall responslbility and of the trustee
recruitment, selection ané induclic>n prO￿ss_
Existing trustees have a dear rolè to play in overseeing the effective managem9nl of an open and efficient
process. This applies whether Iruslee$ themselves select new colleague5, or whether other arrangements apply
(for example, elects'on or nomination by a membersh1psI. There will be an assessment on what skills ara needed
within the trustee board. and these skills developed into a delerminalion as tD what kind of trustees to look for. A

People under the age of 18. unless the charity is a registered company,.
- Anyone convicted of an offence involving deception or dishonesty unless the convlctlon is spent.,
- Anyone who is an undischarged bankrupt..
Anyone who has previously been removed frorn Irusleeship of a chafily by the Court Df the Commissioners., and
- Anyone who is under a disqualification order under the Company Directors Oisqualificalion Act 1996.

Organlsational Structure
The Iruslees ensure the charity is fulfilling its goals and mission. They are made up of experts and people with
valuable experience in healthcare, charitie5, markel research, business, education and the developing world.
A leadership team implement the visioll and execute the research. They are made up of the market research
experts who had the vision lo and passion to realise the need to operate wlhin a Nol-For-Profil selling,
ensuring that the research and public purpose goals of the development sector and put first.
Induction and training of new trustees
Induction rnaterial include$'. the charity, s goveming ¢Yocumenl. in addition to account$. wwth explanatory material
where necessary, and recent minute5 of trustee meetings.
All trustees, as part of their induction. should receive an "induction pack" containing a copy of the Charity's key
documents lusually the charty's goveming document, latest sel of annu81 accounts and copies of minutes from
previous meelingsl accompanied by an explanation of their purpose and effect.

Existing trustees are encouraging and open In their dealings with new tiusteès and avoid either glossing over or
exaggerating the role. Openness about the duties and responsibilities of a twslee will dgmyslify thern and help to
reassure prospective candidates abDUt any concerns they might have. An informal meeting at an eady-stage of
the selection process can provide an opportunity for existing trLFslees to piovide prospeotive trustees an
understanding of what a trustee is required and expected lo do.
Rlsk management
The Iruslees have a duty lo identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure
appropriate controls are in place lo provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
All work is elhi¢ally approved in each and every country. Market research via the iespedive ethical approval
committeè of the relevant country is completed.
