Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

(c) Advance the education of the rescue services in the UK and overseas by providing training and experience in rescue extrication and recovery techniques.

1. UKRO Challenge 2023

From 14 – 16 September, in partnership with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, we held the 2023 Festival of Rescue. The event included 27 extrication teams, 23 trauma teams, 7 water teams, 12 rope rescue. There was a dog demonstration event including a range of working dogs. We also ran a Fire Cadets Casualty Care Challenge with 6 teams attending from around the UK. This event was run in association with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) UK Fire Cadets. The assessors were provided by the charity, LIVES.

We provided Educational workshops in the following subjects:

2. Global work

We supported the World Rescue Organisation in delivering the World Rescue Challenge in Lanzarote (Spain) contribute to the development of rescue standards, assessor standards and challenge concept.

3. Organisational development

Throughout 2023 UKRO continued to engage and reach out to new partners to improve the brand and reputation of the charity. This included significant partnership work with the NFCC through the UKRO Academy along with the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) offering all UKRO volunteers the opportunity to progress their own continual professional development. Other partnership work included developing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Professional Recovery Operators Federation (PROF) and working with NFCC developing the National Organisational Guidance for the fire sector across the UK.
