Section C Objectives and activities
| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
To advance education in the arts for the public benefit, particularly in but not exclusively choral and other music by providing: a) vocational training courses, workshops and development programmes and b) performances, concerts and recordings of high artistic merit to the general public |
|---|---|
| In planning activities for the year, trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit during meetings. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Voces Academy has been unable to continue with its normal schedule of training courses, workshops and development programmes. The cohort of students that was in place at the start of the pandemic were provided with an online alternative for continued development for the period up until the end of the academic year (July 2020). Voces Academy has not undertaken any further activities since this time due to restrictions on in-person activities and concerns around health and safety. |

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
From the start of the pandemic until the end of the academic year (July 2020), Voces Academy ran a series of curated online development sessions for the cohort of students current at the time.
The purpose of these sessions was two-fold:
-
To keep a thread of continued learning for the conducting students
-
To maintain a support group for the students as the arts industry was shut-down, providing a space for the conductors to freely discuss the psychological impact of the lockdown, share ideas and stay connected.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Voces Academy has been unable to undertake any additional activities and therefore did not run any futher events, workshops or activities during the 2020-21 year.

Section E
Financial review
Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
Longer term the policy on reserves is to develop a three-month balance of cash for expected liabilities. Finances continue to be reviewed regularly.
Details of any funds materially in deficit
Further financial review details (Optional information)
You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:
-
the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);
-
how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;
-
investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
The financial situation of the charity has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The activities of the charity rely heavily on inperson meetings and therefore were unable to go ahead throughout the year.
- Due to the loss of income due to the pandemic, the executive director was first given a 50% reduction in fees and eventually the cessation of payment entirely. There has been a hold on all other unnecessary expenses of the charity.
No further increase of liabilities incurred through start-up costs. The loan provided for start-up is not secured against any assets of the charity and is not under any immediate requirement for repayment (only as and when the charity is financially able to do so).
Section F
Other optional information
With the event of the COVID-19 pandemic still continuing, there has been no activity for Voces Academy during this year. It has continued to be difficult to plan and understand how the vocational training programmes will develop during this time. The charity has focussed on reducing costs in an effort to survive and is currently undergoing a reassessment of activities for post-pandemic conditions.
As such, there are no planned activities for the 2021-22 year at present.
