I would like to expre8s my thanks to every"m8mb8r of the branth t8ad8rship team. Thelr guidance, support. and dedication have been key In raising awareness and delivoring our s8rvlces to the communlty. Without their support and leadership, we would not hav8 been able to rnake Such significant strides fO￿ard or reach those in need of our 8UPPOrt. This year, we have contlnued our journey of raising awareness In the economically challenged area3 of Binningham. We have strived to ensurn that our m8888g8 r8sonatss across all comers of the city. Our radlo interviews with Unlty FM. the largest Muslim community radio slation in the UK, have helpad us to reach audiences who may not have known about our 8ervices and what we are abl8 to offer. Outreach has been a top prlorlty for us this year. with our outreach actlvities increasing by around 300% ov8r the past few year8. We have buift a Strong relationship with a local food bank. offering our emotlonal 8UPPOrt to the homeless community on a weekly basls. Additionally, we have be8n worklng closely wlth Job centre8 across Blrrnlngham, provlding ernotlonal support to th088 facing unemployment durfng th88e challenging times. We have also worked wlth local universities which has been very woll received. During fresher8' week and through a roadshow at the Universlty of Birmingham, we were able to offer on-prom18e8 emotional support to skndents. Furthermore. we have Inltlated discussions with Birmlngham Cty Football Club, alming to raise awareness of our servlce8. Whila in its 88rty stagas, we are hopeful that thls will strengthen throughout the upcoming year.

Last year, our branch re8ponded to over 26.000 contacts from callers through varlou8 Ghannel8, including emall, phone. and online chat. This under8core8 the rol8 we play in providing support to those In need. The branch provides a service for the benefit of people in Bimiingham and the surn)unding area and works with all Samaritans branches to provide 24 hour avallabllity of the service across the UK. Samaritans does not charge anyone for the service provided. Emotlonal Support Durlng the 12 months a con81derable amount of work wa8 undertaken by our 192 volunteers. Appr0￿matelY 26.000 contacts were made to Blrmingham branch by phone, email. face-to face or online chat Prl8on Support We 88lect and traln prl8on8r8 to work 88 L18ten8r8 In Blrmlngham Prf80n. Listeners provide emotion81 support to fellow inmates in distress. Our pr180n team supports Listeners through meetings In Birmingham Prison and. if requlred. attends the pr180n at any other tlme. Tralnlng Durlng the year we ran 6 courses for new voluntser8, wlth each volunteer attendlng 6 Initial training Bessions. Also compulsory continuing development for our experienced volunteers took place during the year. We also have a 8yStem of ongolng mentoring for experlenced voluntsers. Fund Ral8lng All fund ra181ng18 carrled out by branch volunteer8. Our thanks to those volunteers who hav8 given up their fr88 time to C8rry out thi8 888entlal tssk a8 without them the branch would struggle to conts'nue in existence. Publlclty and Outroach Excellent publlcKy18 central to both our outreach programme and volunteer r8cruitmenL To this end we plac8 publicity in community centres. hospit81s, churches, health centres, libraries, and at railway station8. We undertake a wide variety of outreach actlvitles. almlng to reach 8ectlon8 of the community who would be less Ilkety to contsct us. We work wlth the homeless and we also have a partnershlp wlth Network Rall. We take part in Bimiingham Prlde and and we play our part in local initiatives such as the Birmingham Suicide Prevention Plan.

AMARIT Trustses The Trustees of Birmingham Samaritsns comprise 9 members. Including the Dlr8Ctor. who chairs the Trustees and is an eX￿ficI0 member. Nominations for new elected truste88 are taken prlor to the Annual Genaral Maetlng and If necessary elections will tske place. All Trust8e8 receive training In their dutles and respon8lbllltle8. The Tru8tee8 meet on a monthly basi8. Th• Dlrector Jason Ward becama Director in March 2022. after wid8 con8ultation amongst the volunteers within the branch, and also wlth the Involvement of the Samaritsns Reglonal Dlrector. The Dlrector Is repon8lble for and h88 authorlty over the day-to4ay conduct and managem8nt of the work of the branch. Thls enables the branch's objectives to be pursued without undue restriction, provided always that the Director acts In accordance wlth policies determined by the Trustees and the wider Samaritans organisation. Different Indivldual trustees take responsibility for overseeing facilities, health and safety, fundralslng, IT 8UPPOrt and risk management. Incomo and Expendlture Towards the end of 2022 w8 resumed applying for grants from charitable trusts, having Stopped for a period becau88 our reserves were very high. As 8 result our Income this year was £35,700 higher than the previous year. Our expenditure increased by £3.400. princlpalty as a result of a £8,100 increase in repalrs and maintenance costs. Overall our funds increa88d by £9,300 having fallen by £25,900 last year Ros•rves Pollcy The Trustses have r8Vi8W8d the charity8 need8 for re8erve8 In line with the guldance 188ued by tha Charity Commission and have decided that we 8hould aim to hold minlmum level of r88erv8s of £115.000.
