||||||2021/22 was a year in which we focussed|on|
||||||strategic and new activities,<br>arising from our||
||||||experiences<br>during the COVID lockdowns.||
|Summary|ofthe main|||Para 1.20|||
|achievements||ofthe charity,|||Our major artistic activity involved<br>the||
|identifying|the|difference the|||creation ofa new opera with young people,||

|the circumstances|||ofits||Between October 2021 and February 2022||

|benefits to society as a<br>whole.|||||organised<br>by CYO, twenty young people<br>aged between 11 and 19years old wrote|the|
||||||words and music for The Little Black Cat.||
||||||The younger<br>participants,<br>some ofwhom||
||||||had very little formal music education||
||||||created the cat choruses experimenting<br>with||
||||||cat sounds and 'translating'<br>them into||
||||||English and setting them to music. The older||
||||||participants<br>created the score (music)||
||||||mentored<br>by the composer Russell||
||||||Hepplewhite<br>and the libretto (script)||
||||||for the opera was created with the support|of|
||||||the CYO team. This work was of immediate||
||||||benefit to the young people taking part, who||
||||||were able to develop new skills and||
||||||experiences. One participant<br>said: "You||
||||||gave me the courage to try things<br>I might||
||||||never have done otherwise. The Little Black<br>Cat showed me<br>I could be a writer. " We also||
||||||worked<br>with the Netherhall<br>School who||
||||||based a Year 8 English module<br>on the work.||
||||||The impact ofthis project extends into future||
||||||work, driving performance<br>projects,||
||||||workshops<br>with primary<br>and secondary||
||||||schools and future partnerships<br>which||
||||||should<br>bring benefits to a wide range of||
||||||young people.||
||||||Our second major area of activity was||
||||||strategic. We started work on a new||
||||||business<br>plan and on the development<br>of|a|
||||||Youth Advisory<br>Board to drive future activity||
||||||and impact. These were both started||
||||||towards the end ofthe period covered<br>in this||
||||||report. Work on the business<br>plan began|in|
