Treasurer’s report for year ended 31[st] December 2024 Friends of the Free School Charity Number 1166718

The Friends fundraising activities in 2024 generated just over £33,000. The Friends already had over £11,000 in the bank raised from previous years, and this year £20,000 was donated back to the school for the benefit of the children and around £12.000 was spent on hosting events for the school community to enjoy. The Friends ended the year with £13,745.38 in the bank*.

Funds Raised

The Friends committee, parents and school staff continued to work hard to host events such as the School Discos for all year groups, Summer and Winter Fairs, Camping, Christmas Card Project, Tea Towel Project and new Reception Play Dates. Additional fundraising events were held for Sports Day in the summer term with refreshments for sale and all children given ice poles as a treat. In September 2024 the Friends joined forces with the PTA for Hatcham College, organising a Fun Run.

Initiatives such as Charities Trust, Easy Fundraising and ad hoc donations, raised a total of £763.19, looking forward the Friends will seek to maximise the use of these initiatives.

Donated Back

The Friends were able to donate generously to the School for a number of projects. This has covered a new fixed sandpit and shelter in the reception garden, scooter rack, as well as purchasing playground equipment including large wooden blocks for the Vesta playground, sports equipment, board games, top trumps, uno, stack it cups, footballs, and basketball equipment.

Notably, the funds have continued to provide an annual hardship fund, allowing the school to underwrite the cost of the Yr 6 residential for all children, as well as supporting vulnerable families to access other opportunities such as free or subsidised enrichment clubs and musical bursaries for 1:1 music lessons.

In total these school projects came to £20,000.

Other

Running costs for the various events came to just under £12,000, (these costs included things like the food and drink for the various discos and fairs, camping equipment hire, DJ hire, bouncy castle hire etc). The PTA running costs (such as insurance) came to £287.96.

Being part of the Friends is a fantastic experience, the friendships that can be built with parents and staff across the school, the fun of running events, and the satisfaction of seeing the school benefit from such collaboration is something we would wish to recommend to other parents at the school, who might volunteer to pick up the batons in the future.
