## **Objects** 

In accordance with the objects of the constitution Grainger Park continues to support and assist young people to develop their capabilities so that they may grow to become active citizens within the community. Our aim is to promote participation and association through the resources, facilities and funding to offer a broad range of activities, programmes and services that improve the condition of life. Trustees will continue to secure and retain the centre and facilities for the local community in order to further the objectives. 

## **Summary** 

Grainger Park began to break free from the Covid restrictions that had blighted the centre for the previous two years and build our capacity back to levels experienced in 2019. Trustees and volunteers encouraged members to keep their discipline of covid measures to ensure our growing services and programmes developed further. Work began in developing a new programme and in September 2021 a new three tier schedule for training was introduced for Beginners, Intermediates and Carded boxers. Young people from 8 yrs old are introduced to a training and fitness regime to establish Boxing fundamentals, develop and improve fitness, encourage teamwork and self discipline. Young boxers MUST develop these qualities and skills before they move onto the intermediate level. Boxers continue to build on the elements of the beginner but focus is placed on boxing techniques and prepares participants to represent Grainger Park as a carded boxer. Many of our members are happy to develop their skills and improved fitness and not venture into the ring. Grainger Park is proud in the development of the “Pathway” and grateful for the volunteer coaches for giving young people the opportunity to grow and develop in a very supportive and safe environment. 

Our thanks to Chris Trotter for developing the schedule and bringing our coaches and volunteers along the journey. Michael Johnson, head coach leads the team. 

Our Carded Boxers continue to develop their skills and techniques but build strength and conditioning to help with their development into the ring and competitive boxing. Carded boxers have flexibility to attend Intermediate sessions to refresh and build strength. 

Within this year Grainger Park promoted three “Boxing Shows” to give our boxers the opportunity to showcase their skills. These evenings helped Trustees raise over £7,000. Grainger Park also hosted an event for a neighbouring Club to help raise much needed funding following the pandemic. 

In October 2021, Grainger Park sent a squad of 7 boxers to Penrith to compete in the Longsdale MTK Global Box Cup. All boxers performed very well in a National Competition and did the “club” proud. Grainger Park celebrated a WINNER, in the 58kg section, Connor Naples over-coming a very tough opponent to give an outstanding performance to win the competition and put Grainger Park ABC onto the nation stage. 

Grainger Park has welcomed a number of new coaches to the team and purchased a new Boxing Ring that improves our resources and help make our shows professional. All coaches are given access to first aid, safeguarding and Level one Coaching Award. We have a number of coaches who are qualified at Level two standard. Lee Major is responsible to ensure Grainger Park complies to England Boxing requirements and standards. 

Grainger Park continued to support a number of stakeholders and were very pleased to attract an established Muay Thai club who have settled very quickly and committed themselves to Grainger Park. They have a number of Regional and National Champions and recently celebrated a new Under 16 WBC Muay Thai English Champion. Grainger Park will continue to work the Steve Burrows to embed the club into the centre. 



As we come to the end of this year Grainger Park is negotiating two fantastic opportunities that will further enhance our provision. Michael Johnson and Lee Major are holding discussions with Newcastle Excelsior about supporting vulnerable students into alternative education. This provision will be held within the Sports Centre. Chris Trotter is exploring the installation of bleecher seating with a National Provider. The seating will totally change the internal environment of the centre and make Grainger Park the prime venue for local Shows and an improved revenue stream. 

Grainger Park has enlisted the support of SPORTED a national Charity to help shape our provision. We are reviewing the Development and Business plans to move the centre forward. We hope 2022 proves to be a stable year and one that truly puts Grainger Park on the map.

|**Respective**|The trustees of the organisation are responsible for the preparation of|

||procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be|

|**Independent**|In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:|

|**statement**|respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:|

## **Notes to the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2022** 

- **1 Accounting Policies** 

- **1.1 Basis of preparation of accounts** 

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015) – Charities SORP (FRS 102), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006 

Grainger Park meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy note(s). 

## **1.2 Grant receivable and local authority fees** 

- Grants received are accounted for on a receivable basis and credited to income. Any grants restricted to future accounting periods are deferred and recognised in those accounting periods. 

## **1.3 Funds** 

- Restricted funds comprise funds subject to specific restrictions imposed by donors and funders. Designated funds are set aside by the Management Committee as described below (see note 4) Unrestricted funds comprise funds which can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the Management Committee. 

## **1.4 Expenditure** 

All is included on the accruals basis and is recognised when there is a legal or constructive obligation to pay for expenditure. All costs have been directly attributed to one if the functional categories of resources expended in the SOFA. The charity is not registered for VAT and accordingly expenditure is shown gross of irrecoverable VAT.

**Note:** the total amount received from the Garfield Weston Foundation was £15,000, which is to be used over three years, £5,000 per year. This is the final installment.
