Annual Report

St Fursey’s Church and Community

2020/2021

The year from April 2020 to March 2021 was a difficult year. The lockdown due to covid pandemic was being extended and meetings and gatherings could not take place consequently alternative options were put on hold until it became clearer how long the pandemic would impact the church and community. So the church project (building a new church) was put on hold as the builder was not happy travelling to the site and Fr Stephen ensured the current church was kept safe.

New covid 19 regulations are in force which means we can hold a trustees meeting and November the 1[st] 2020 was selected. The topic of conversation during this meeting was the builder who had been unable during lockdown to progress on the church building and some concern was expressed as to his ability to complete the project in the manner intended. It was also stated that the church stall in Norwich which had been closed during the lockdown had been dismantled, what this means for any future stall in Norwich market is still to be determined.

Unfortunately, a second national lockdown effective from November 5[th] , 2020, was announced and the Trustees decided that those who could, would attend meetings via the zoom platform. A meeting was arranged for November 14[th] , 2020, and Fr Gregory and Khr Helen Hallam joined the meeting which focused on the church building project and its future. Susan Frazer chaired the meeting and the trustees decided to write to the builder and seek assurances from him otherwise we would be forced to look elsewhere.

A further trustees meeting was held via zoom on 28[th] November,2020, the trustees suggested that the church policies should be looked at and updated if necessary. Professional building advice had been sought from construction bodies on the church building project with the concensus that work would have to be done to bring the building back up to specification and William and Joe would oversee this. A donation was received by the church for £20,000 which is a

blessing and would enable the work to continue. We continue to pray that further financial help will emerge.

The trustees met via zoom on 23[rd] January,2021, and the church project is continuing to be a problem. The expert advice is to demolish the work so far and begin again. Feelings are strong and a definite outcome needs to be achieved.

The zoom meeting of February followed a similar direction with the bulk of the meeting focused on the building project which is continuing to be held up. However, quotes are beginning to come in and the trustees are hopeful that a new builder will be decided upon and construction may begin.

The covid 19 pandemic has meant that the church congregation has been unable to attend and restrictions have made any contact difficult. We continue praying for a end to the pandemic and our prayers are for all who have been affected.
