Ramsey Colts Football Development – Registered Charity N[o] 1166597

Trustees’ Report

Presented by Martin Muir

The 2022-23 season saw another increase in our teams to 20 playing in Leagues plus development teams. We celebrated having two teams staying together right through to the U17 and we have continued to see the growth of girls football to six teams plus development squads.

As we start the 23-24 season, we have grown to 23 teams in Leagues plus development squads. We have 83 volunteers involved with Teams and as trustees but more helping out in the cabin and on the grounds and lining team. This continued commitment does present a good image to the community but also demonstrates we have a good relationship with the community. Two of our Trustees, Sally and Jane, were recognised for their long service to Grassroots football by HuntsFA and presented with certificates at our Presentation Day.

We were delighted that two of our younger coaches, Jacob Calver and Rosie Mead, joined the HuntsFA Youth Council.

The FA have moved away from the Charter Standard system and all clubs must now achieve FA Accreditation. We have met their standards for TWO star accreditation. To gain 3 star accreditation we would have to offer fully inclusive football meaning disability football or Walking football, or fun-only sessions for other under-represented groups. If anyone has any specific interest in these areas and would like to help, please speak to us.

We have hosted a number of football events and some community events including coaching Fun days from Peterborough Blues, Peterborough United, and recently Real Madrid plus Ramsey Neighbourhood Trust and BOSH have held events with us.

This year we were asked to be the last-minute hosts for the HYL Plate and Cup matches for Minisoccer. HYL were very impressed with our facility and ability to host at short notice.

We were invited to the FA Clubs of the Future Conference in St George’s Park back in November where views were canvassed about the issues facing grassroots clubs and where various support mechanisms were demonstrated to help us continue to be a stable, growing and successful club. There was a lot of shared learning. We have also attended meetings regarding the challenges facing grassroots football since Covid and hear our suggestions as to what changes we would like to see. Much discussion focussed on behaviour and the poor attitude to refereeing.

The other common ground was the difficulty in attracting volunteers to even do some of the small jobs in running a club. We are not alone in this. We need to build a bigger volunteer

resource to help with behind-the-scenes tasks in order to sustain the growth in this club. With 464 players associated with the club, that is potentially up to 928 parents, all with their own skill-bases that could offer a little of their time. Currently we are at 9%, it would be great to get to 11% by having just one new volunteer from each team to do something.

Let’s continue to work hard to maintain the high profile of Ramsey Colts in the region but we are confident that keep meeting our charitable objectives in providing a safe and inclusive environment for boys and girls to enjoy learning the skills of football and how to commit to a team ethos, building individuals of the future.
