ST FRANCIS ANIMAL WELFARE
TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2025
The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 30 September 2025.
The Charitable Incorporated Organisation ICIOI was registered with the Charity Commission in England
and Wales on 18 April 2016. The CIO was dormant until l December 2016 when the activity and assets
were transferred from its predecessor unincorporated charity St Francis Animal Welfare Group Icharity
number: 2631721.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in the notes to the
accounts and comply with the charity's constitution of rules and bye-laws dated 1955, as amended
March 2005 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities" the Statement of Recommended Practice for
charities applying FRS 102.
Structure, governance and management
The predecessor charity St Francis Animal Welfare Group was started in 1953 to provide shelter and care
for a variety of animals, mainly domestic pets, which needed re-homing. This work continues through its
shelter near Fair Oak, and includes some long-term residents unsuitable for re-homing, though foster
homes are increasingly preferred for welfare reasons. The Charity converted to a Charitable
Incorporated Organisation in 2016. We continue to seek volunteers to help in the work of the shelter as
well as new ideas for fundraising to increase the Charity's income as much as possible.
The following trustees served during the year:
Mrs B Morris
Mr G Pragnell
Ms C Rogers
Ms K Bailey
Mr M Conde lappointed 8 July 20251
Mrs A Bendall Iresigned 6 April 20261
Miss A Lodge (resigned 11 April 20251
There is no Chairperson in place at present.
Annette Lodge resigned from the committee in April 2025 after having been a trustee and Chairperson
for the previou5 thirteen year5. By transforming the governance, she guided the charity onto the path
that we continue on today - her main aim being to improve the lives of all the animals that came into
our care.
New trustees are appointed when appropriate, candidates being assessed on the basis of their skills and
experience. New trustees have the opportunity of reviewing appropriate documents such as accounts
and the Charity Commission guidance on the role of the trustee as part of their induction.
As part of their ongoing responsibilities the Trustees have assessed the major risks affecting the charity
and are continuing to implement and review policies to mitigate those risks.

ST FRANCIS ANIMAL WELFARE
TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2025 (continued...)
Objectives and artivities
The charity's objects are the furtherance of animal welfare for public benefit in the locality, principally
southern Hampshire, by the maintenance of a shelter (animal rescue homel for the benefit of needy
animals and the provision of other rescue, rehabilitation and support services for such animals.
The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what
activities the charity should undertake.
Achievements and performance
The Trustees had made the difficult decision to sell an unused property on our site which had previously
been used as the Manager's house and which would have needed substantial improvements to bring it
up to standard. Since covid, St Francis Animal Welfare has had a couple of difficult years with regards to
income and its reserves had been substantially reduced. The house was finally sold by auction in July
2025 and the money from the sale will enable St Francis Animal Welfare to have a solid financial reserve
in order to continue its work of rescuing. rehabilitating and rehoming animals for many years to come.
The trustees took the decision to use a small amount of the proceeds to replace the shelter van which
was written off in an accident last summer after many years of service. A brand new Nissan Townstar
wa5 purchased which we plan to have sign written for publicity.
After two years of deficits which strained our finances, we were delighted this year to show a substantial
surplus before adjusting for losses on revaluation. Income rose significantly due to generous legacies.
increased general donations and successful events. We also had our first year of successful grant
applications which included not only grants for capital projects but also for running costs. Overheads
were kept well controlled despite high inflation.
After Annette Lodge resigned as Chairperson, the committee took the decision not to refill that role but
act collectively as a Board, splitting the Chair's roles between us and chairing the meetings in turn. Kerry
Bailey took on the role of Secretary. We feel that this approach has worked well over the last year.
St Francis Animal Welfare made significant progress over the past year in fulfilling its mission to rescue.
rehabilitate, and rehome animals across Hampshire. The committee continues to work passionately to
ensure the ongoing success and growth of St Francis Animal Welfare.

ST FRANCIS ANIMAL WELFARE
TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2025 (continued...)
Financial review and reserves
The charity had a deficit of £7,231 for the year. Total reserve5 at the balance sheet date were £581.541,
including freehold property which was revalued to £150,000. The charity deficits in the previous three
years had resulted in a reduction in the charity's reserves, and as a result the trustees took the decision
to sell part of the property, Sunnyside Cottage, which was unused, to raise additional funding. The sale
completed in June 2025 raising £300,000 before associated costs. This injection of funds will tide us over
for several years, coupled with increased revenue from donations, grants and legacies. However the
monies received have been offset by the freehold property revaluation resulting in the deficit.
This report has been prepared in accordance with the governing document and the Statement of
Recommended Practice 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities applying FRSIO2.
Trustees responsibilities
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the accounts in accordance with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted
Accounting Practice).
Charity law requires the trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair
view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the income and expenditure of the charity for that year.
In preparing these accounts, the trustees are required to:
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently,.
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and

that the charity will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that disclose with reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the accounts
comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are a150 responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity
and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
