## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

(A) THE  RELIEF  OF  THOSE  IN  NEED,  THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION (AND TRAINING) AND THE PROMOTION OF GOOD HEALTH AND  WELLBEING  ALL FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT IN BRIDPORT DORSET (THE “AREA  OF  BENEFIT”)  IN  PARTICULAR  BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY RELIEVING, PREVENTING  AND  ASSISTING  PEOPLE  IN NEED  OF  JOBS,  SKILLS,  EDUCATION  AND BETTER  DIETS  PARTICULARLY  THOSE WHO ARE POORLY TRAINED, LIVING IN UNSUITABLE HOUSING, ON LOW PAY (INCLUDING THOSE ON ZERO HOUR CONTRACTS),  WHO  ARE  UNSKILLED  AND HAVE  POOR  EDUCATIONAL  BACKGROUNDS AND/OR ILLNESS BY PROVIDING THEM WITH A  RANGE  OF  ASSISTANCE  AND  SUPPORT FOR THEIR BENEFIT INCLUDING THE PROVISION OF GARDENING SPACES, SKILLS TRAINING, TOOLS AND SUPPLIES, TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE, HORTICULTURE AND GARDENING WITH THE AIM TO HELP THEM COLLECTIVELY ORGANIZE COMMON COMMUNITY RESOURCES (INCLUDING A FOOD CO-OPERATIVE), PROVIDING TRAINING IN CULTURAL/ART ENDEAVORS AND SKILLS, SUPPORTING PARENTS TO UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF THEIR CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT AND BY PROVIDING  SAFE  CULTURAL  SPACES  FOR THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION TO BE ENHANCED THROUGH THE PERFORMING AND FINE ARTS, READING AND LISTENING SKILLS ALL SO THAT THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE MAY BE IMPROVED.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

Over the last year the charity has continued its work in developing an edible teaching garden at St Mary’s School, Bridport; had continued to work in supporting the school’s cook and kitchen in defining a proper diet for the children; has broadened its work with individual children and with the teachers in helping them to learn about seed and planting their own food; had organised 4 seasonal events around the garden inviting parents to join in; has provided storytelling, dance and drawing lessons upon occasion for the children all based around food; has provided after-school cookery classes for parents and children; has begun to link the school with the local Children’s Centre to help younger children learn about food; has begun to provide the local church run food bank with our excess fruit and vegetables from the garden, especially during the summer months; and has continued to support the HOME sponsored allotment attached to the Skilling Estate. Home has also worked with the new head teacher to develop a school wide food policy and we have at last been able to incorporate our teaching in the garden to the national syllabus. 

We have begun a new garden at Bridport Primary, raising funds for a new polytunnel, seed and tools. The Bridport Town Council Public Works team have helped us with some of the heavy lifting and clearing.

Across the year we have: **Summary of the main** At St Mary’s Bridport **achievements of the** *we have expanded the garden area, **charity during the year** *incorporated the Learning Gardens practice and teaching with that of the national syllabus for joined up learning and ideas *provided after-school cookery learning for children and parents *continued to provide food from the garden to the local food bank in the summer * at our allotment we have continued expanding the number of under privileged and emotionally challenged people into the gardening *we created an exhibition for the Bridport Arts centre called Exile, a Mind in Winter about alienation and exile •and we have been able to begin from a wild and overgrown area behind Bridport Primary into a new garden with polytunnel, a wooded area and a pond with the help of the school’s parents and children.
