Edward Kwong Church Elder ## Cambridge Alliance Church (CAC) Annual Board Report 2021-2022 ## The Vision and Mission of CAC - A Caring SupporEng Empowering & Networking Community Church - The Strategic role of our church in Cambridge - “ Reaching out to the local community and Chinese intellectuals at the campus. - The Great Commandment ( The book of Mark 12:30-31) - The Great Commission ( The book of MaOhew 28:18-20) ## 1.0 Looking back 2021 / 2022 was an extraordinary year for the Cambridge Alliance Church (CAC). The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a historic shock to the UK community and impacted every fabric of society. Our way of life was completely disrupted. The lockdown measures over the last two years has changed the landscape of community services and format of interpersonal interacEons across the UK. As the result of the unprecedented policies such as social distancing, restricted face-to-face interacEons, the pre-pandemic normal on-site acEviEes in the Cambridge Alliance Church came to a halt unEl September 2021. But the work of God has never stopped. ## 2.0 Transforming to a New Normal Praise the Lord! Despite the challenging social environment, the CAC workers spared no effort to expand the ministries and brought about a faceli^ to the service. “The Church without walls” was no longer a just a slogan. We started on-line classes, workshops and sermons, and outreach flourished and extended to a new fronEer last year. This Report highlights the outreach programs and acEviEes carried out in CAC in 2021/22. ## 2.1 Church MeeEngs and AcEviEes - Outreach to Cambridge and Beyond Due to the infecEon control measures the church meeEngs were suspended for several months. All of the church acEviEes such as Sunday worship, Bible study groups, Cell groups, Discipleship training, ParenEng classes have moved from face-to-face to online via live Zoom meeEngs, reaching out to various parts of UK and even countries in the Far East. With the easing of lockdown measures, it was anEcipated that the church acEviEes would come back in full strength in year 2022. ## 2.2 Women’s Fellowship and Catering Workers Outreach Ministry In respond to the call of God to serve less-reached groups, plans were made to establish regular Women’s Fellowship and the Catering Workers Outreach Ministry meeEngs in 2022. ## 2.3 Cantonese Service for Hong Kongers In contrast to the quietness in the campus due to lockdowns, it was predicted that a large number of Hong Kongers would migrate to the UK beginning in 2021 due to the BNO immigraEon route. Rev. Rosa Chan, Mr. Edward Kwong and leaders of the church council of the Cambridge Alliance Church (CAC) responded to the call of God to serve the growing number of Cantonese speaking Hong Kongers in Cambridge. This preparaEon group held regular meeEngs to plan and prepare the ground work and future operaEons of the new Cantonese service. The on-line Sunday Cantonese Service started on 14 Feb 2021 with a congregaEon of only 14 members. When the congregaEon celebrated its first anniversary, the number had miraculously grown to 150 adults and 100 children and teens. Many Hong Kong families who seOled in Cambridge have school-aged children. The CAC felt the burning needs to lead this new generaEon to know Him, love Him, serve Him and glorify Him and become God’s disciples. We are very grateful that God prepared a team of devoted leaders and programmes tailored for these children were planned and started in 2021/22, namely: - Teen’s Sunday Service (For Year 7-11 students) - Children’s Sunday Service (For Year 1-6 students) By mid 2022, about 100 young people and children regularly aOended the above programs. ## 2.4 Outreaching to Cantonese Speaking Non-believers Following on from the vision of outreaching to non-believers, with much hard work, prayers and preparaEon, the CAC took a bold step to establish the first Cantonese Speaking Chinese School for teenagers and children aged from 5 to 13 in Cambridge. This teaches Cantonese aiming serve the needs of the families from Hong Kong and extending our care to the community. The school was comprised of four cohorts (pre-school, lower, middle, higher) and was opened in the school year of 2022/23. This Chinese School has a unique role in our ministry plans by bridging the gap between the Church members and the Hong Kong community in Cambridge. ## 2.5 Outreaching to the Unknown With the conEnued live-streaming of Sunday Services since the end of the lockdown, God’s words were spread afar. Believers and non-believers from other corners of the world had the ability to join the Putonghua Sunday Service on-line. A couple from Sri Lanka who regularly aOended the on-line Sunday Service were touched by God and they chose to be bapEsed and now serve in their local church. We pray that their search for the truth and their faith in God may grow from strengths to strengths. - 2.6 Stream of Praise 2022 – Music Ministries Mr. Edward Kwong assumed the Chairman of London Chinese ChrisEan AssociaEon (LCCA) over the past 5 years and was appointed the convener of the music ministry “Stream of Praise 2022” held in London. The concert was successfully held with an audience of 2000 on 29 October 2022 in London. Mr. Edward Kwong will step down from the chairmanship of LCCA next year and conEnue to focus on the campus and CAC ministry in coming years. ## **3.0 Challenges ahead** The effects of COVID-19 policies implemented in China and the changing tension of internaEonal relaEonships as well as the global economic situaEon, will conEnue to affect the number of students and families coming to Cambridge for further study and/or work. We have seen the overall Sunday service and other meeEngs aOendance have significantly increased and we pray that God conEnues to use these programs for outreach especially to return the lost sheep to His flock. The significant increase in Hong Kong people choosing to seOle in Cambridge has brought both challenges and opportuniEes for CAC ministries and our work. _**“The harvest is plen/ful, but the labourers are few; therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest**_ ”.
