**The Layberry Foundation was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 14[th] April 2016.  Charity Number 1166536.** 

**In December 2019 one of the Trustees, Barry Bryant, sadly passed away and his details have been removed from current records.   The list of Trustees at 31[st] October 2020 was as given below:**

## **1. Introduction:** 

**1.1 The aims of The Layberry Foundation remain the same – to help meet the needs of young or vulnerable adults who, in the main, have left or are about to leave Local Authority care, and who are lacking in the practical and life skills they need to gain employment and survive in society.    To date, The Layberry Foundation (based on a 52 acre farm and forestry site in North West Kent) has only been able to provide limited opportunities for young people to work in this environment, much of the delays in rolling out the programme being due to COVID 19 preventing a great deal of the face to face work that had been envisaged.** 

**1.2 In addition to the restrictions which have been inevitable as a result of COVID19, there are still planning considerations to be overcome in order for the site to reach its potential, so therefore as far as possible the Foundation has been developing its Mentoring service out in the community. This, too, has inevitably been impacted by the COVID19 pandemic.** 

**1.3 Links have been made locally with the Sevenoaks District Council’s Voluntary Forum and this is proving to be a useful method of sharing ideas, as well as building relationships with likeminded organisations within the community.  In addition, we have preserved the links with local businesses so that when circumstances allow we can access work experience opportunities for young people.** 

**1.4 Whilst the consultant appointed in July 2018 still has a good deal of input, it was possible in June 2020  to appoint a Co-ordinator in a permanent post to organise the day to day work of the Charity.   He has carried out a good deal of work on refining Policies and Procedures, as well as a Training Programme for Mentors, a number of whom were recruited and trained despite the COVID restrictions.** 

**1.5 The funding for the Co-ordinator’s post has been provided, as envisaged last year,  by the fostering organisation with whom the Charity is closely involved.   Whilst other applications for funding have been made it is evident that the reliable source of funding provided by the fostering agency (ALL4U Fostering Ltd.) is the only secure way to ensure this salaried post going forward.** 

**1.6 As previously mentioned, the restrictions which have occurred as a result of COVID have severely hampered the development of the Charity as a face to face service, just starting out, but some innovative thinking has been taking place around young people who are already fostered within ALL4U Fostering Ltd.    Some steps have been taken to encourage young people approaching the time when they will leave care to link with Mentors – albeit this has had to be virtual.   However, it is seen as a positive development.**

## **2. The Fostering Agency** 

**2.1 The fostering agency has always been closely allied to The Layberry Foundation, and in fact it is a Limited Company owned in a Trust; if surplus monies are generated, under the terms of this Trust, 50% goes back into the agency for the benefit of the children, foster carers and staff with the remaining 50% being donated to The Layberry Foundation.** 

**2.2 A good deal of the resources originally available for developing the Charity have continued to be directed   at the Fostering Agency, in recognition of the fact that the funding stream thus created for The Layberry Foundation would be a means of securing the Charity’s ongoing development.** 

**2.3 It continues to be the overall aim that the fostering agency, working alongside The Layberry Foundation, provides support and guidance to young people from the time they come into care until they make the transition into independence, and beyond.** 

## **3 Funding Streams/Donations** 

**3.1     The Charity were unsuccessful in their bid to The Lottery Fund mentioned in the previous Annual Report, despite on their advice being actively encouraged to apply for a Development Grant to cover the cost of the Co-ordinator’s post.** 

**3.2 As mentioned in last year’s Report, it has now been possible to fund this post as a result of the positive growth of the Fostering Service, so there can be  some security that this post will continue to be funded going forward.** 

**3.3 It must be borne in mind that whilst resources for the Fostering Agency have been prioritised, this has had an inevitable effect on the speed at which the Charity has been developed. However, secure foundations are now in place for future development of both services, which are clearly focussed on best outcomes for children and young people.** 

## **4. Fostering Agency and Foundation Relationship** 

**4.1 The Fostering Agency has continued to attract (without resorting to advertising or financial incentives) many fostering families, some new to fostering, others experienced in the sector, all of whom are attracted by the ethos of an organisation which does not seek to make money out of children in care, and aspires to provide an individualised service for each child placed so as to help them reach full potential.   Some of these foster carers are seeking to also become Mentors for the Charity, bringing those aspirations with them.   The fostering agency has grown rapidly and is now financially secure, which bodes well for the work of the Charity.**

**4.2 The Layberry Foundation will in the future be in a relatively secure financial position to fulfil its ambition of providing an innovative and inclusive service to young people, whose needs over the coming months, due to the pandemic, will be even more acute.** 

## **5. Publicity** 

**5.1 The Charity’s website is currently being updated in recognition that as the organisation develops, and especially during the pandemic, on line resources and publicity are crucial.** 

**5.2 During the summer months when lockdown was eased, publicity material including handouts were distributed so that the work of the Foundation could be more widely known** 

## **6. Interim Accounts:** 

## **6.1      The financial year The Layberry Foundation is 1st November to 31[st] October.** 

- **6.2      Income from 1[st] November 2019 to 31[st] September 2020 is £53,346.06.   The bulk of this amount is set aside by the Trustees to pay the wages of the Project Co-ordinator for the coming year.** 

**6.3 Because of the substantial increase in income the Trustees have appointed Creaseys Accountants to oversee the finances of the Charity, produce Accounts and prepare relevant documentation for HMRC.**
