## **Financial Review**

|Review of the
charity’s financial
position at the
end of the period|Para 1.21|**The charity experienced a 38% increase in income over**
**the previous year. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions**
**preventing local face-to-face meetings and larger**
**gatherings in other places there was an 85% decrease in**
**local expenditure and travel. This allowed the trustees to**
**increase support for extra-local causes and supporting**
**Christian workers by nearly 585% and still increase**
**reserves by about 6.4%.**
**Total funds at the end of the year to 30 June 2020 were**
**£61,169 and total funds at the end of the year to 30 June**
**2021 were £65,082. This was despite spending £12,600**
**on extra-local causes and supporting Christian workers.**|
|---|---|---|
|Statement
explaining the
policy for holding
reserves stating
why they are held|Para 1.22|**Since nearly all income to the charity is from one off**
**donations the trustees have strived to maintain a high**
**level of reserves – typically around 12 months operating**
**costs. The Trustees believe this level of financial security**
**is important to allow planning for future activities and a**
**buffer for an unanticipated increase in expenses or drop**
**in income.**
**In addition, because the charity is hoping to acquire a**
**property to support our activities we are allowing our**
**reserves to increase further in anticipation of this large**
**expense.**|
|Amount of
reserves held|Para 1.22|**£51,157 in general funds. The charity holds a further**
**£13,925 in restricted funds, the majority of which is in the**
**building fund.**|
|Reasons for
holding zero
reserves|Para 1.22|**N/A**|
|Details of fund
materially in
deficit|Para 1.24|**N/A**|
|Explanation of
any uncertainties
about the charity
continuing as a
going concern|Para 1.23|**N/A**|
|Details of Trustee
compensation||The Trustees of the Charity are volunteers working free of
charge for the public benefit in advancing the objects of the
Charity. They do not receive any compensation.|

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the trustees of**

## **The Church in Manchester**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Church in Manchester (the Trust) for the year ending 30 June 2021.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
