Chair’s Report 2021-2021

This last academic year has been another successful year for Riverbridge PTA. After a cautious start to the year when we were emerging from the shadows of covid restrictions, we began the year with our first ever Welcome Back Party, with music, food and fireworks. I pause a moment to reflect on that as this was our first big event in nearly 2 years. We felt proud to have run an event that allowed families and friends to reconnect in a face-to-face setting after so long. That community spirit is what is at the core of our PTA and it was wonderful to live and feel that again. The rest of the year quickly sped by with a mixture of family and children centred events such as our Christmas Panto, recycling clothes collection, hot dog nights, discos and our joint celebration with the school to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum jubilee and Riverbridge’s 10 years as a school at our PLA-TIN-UM party. As a PTA we also sought to strength our core values of diversity and inclusion by running new events such as the Elf trial as fun for all the family, with support from local businesses and our first ever Balti Bingo Night. We are immensely grateful to everyone that worked so tirelessly to put on these events and help us to raise vital funds for our school. I will leave it to our Treasurer to speak about the amount of money that was raised and where it has been invested and spent in more detail.

It is an honour for us as a PTA to support and enrich the journey of each child in our school. The funds we raise go directly into purchasing equipment and improving facilities, paying for external visitors to come and educate our children through workshops, theatre and music. We help to bring to life the learning in the classroom by subsidising the cost of trips and visits. We are also delighted that we can support children in adventures beyond the curriculum such as the Voice in a Million contest; this year we also provided every child in our school with a commemorative coin to mark the Jubilee. It is fair to say that every family of our school has been a part of the journey through either the time they volunteer to run the events, by

attending events or by their child benefit from something that the PTA has funded. Our strong sense of community has shone through this last year and we hope will continue to grow from strength to strength. Equally we thank our school who are always so supportive and we hope that our partnership will continue year on year.

We turn now to look at the year ahead. It would remise of us not to acknowledge the financial constraints we may all find ourselves in over this winter and beyond. We as a PTA have an important role to play, as part of our school community in these coming difficult months. As a PTA we need to balance our objective to raises fund with the financial situations of our community. We will seek to ensure value for money from our suppliers and negotiate best rates by arranging multiple bookings or collaborating with the other PTAs in the Lumen Learning Trust. We will continue to build partnerships with local businesses. The support we have received from businesses has been instrumental in last year’s success, whether they have provided raffle prizes, food and drink or volunteered at our events. This year, we know that our costs will rise, but we will try not to pass these on to our families unless we really need to and will consider our core value of inclusivity at all times. The funds we raise this year, will ensure, even more so than ever, that our children have access to the equipment they need, go on trips and visits and experience things which they might not be able to experience in their out of school lives. Having reflected on our role as a PTA, we propose to offer a wide range of social events to allow families to take part in whatever events interest them and whatever is affordable for them. To achieve this, we will offer a range of events at different price points throughout the year.

We look forward to a year of fun, friendships and teamwork. Most of all, we look forward to being on that journey with you all and to seeing the real impact we have on the educational journey of the children of Riverbridge Primary School.
