## STATUS 

Dorset Polish Cenre is the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (“the CIO”) registered and is established for charitable purposes for the public benefit. It has been entered onto the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1166477 on the 12[th] April 2016.

## STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT 

## Governing Document 

The organisation was registered as a charity on 12 April 2016. The Charity was established as a CIO under Constitution. 

In the event of the CIO being wound up, the members of the CIO have no liability to contribute to its assets and no personal responsibility for settling its debts and liabilities. 

## Recruitment and Appointment of Management Committee 

The Trustees of the CIO are known as members of the Management Committee. All members of the Management Committee give their time voluntarily and receive no benefits from the charity. 

## Trustee Induction and Training 

Most trustees are already familiar with the practical work of the charity. 

Additionally, new trustees are invited and encouraged to attend a series of short training sessions to familiarise themselves with the charity and the context within which it operates. This covers: 

- The obligations of Management Committee members. 

- The main documents which set out the operational framework for the charity including the Constitution. 

- Resourcing and the current financial position as set out in the latest published accounts. 

- Future and objectives. 

## PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT 

In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the charity commission guidance on public benefit. 

## ABOUT DORSET POLISH CENTRE 

We are growing charity mainly based for and by Polish people at Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch area with future Dorset range. Our aim is bonding the Polish local community and at the same time create more opportunities for collaboration and dialogue for our nationality with homegrown communities at various levels. 

We strive to improve the quality of life for all by building stronger, safer and sustainable communities in a respectful and just society where diversity is valued. 



On the 30[th] of March 2019 we changed our name from Dorset Centre 4 Us to Dorset Polish Centre to better reflect who we are, to be more recognisable by local communities, organisations and as suggested by our members and supporters to Dorset Polish Centre. 

## **SUMMARY OF KEY ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE YEAR 2022/2023** 

Our main activities were focused on organising events based on Polish culture and ceremonials open for all nations: 

## April 2022

Event description: donation collection, information and goods distribution together with local authorities, local volunteers and other charities

## **Event/activity/project name: Angielski dla Senior (English for Senior Community Members)** 

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): "Angielski dla Seniorów" is a community initiative aimed at empowering senior members through English language learning. The purpose is to enhance communication skills, foster social inclusion, and promote lifelong learning among older adults. Participants will engage in interactive lessons tailored to their needs, led by experienced instructors. The event aims to attract senior citizens seeking to improve their English proficiency and connect with peers in a supportive environment. The outcome will be increased confidence in speaking English, expanded social networks, and a sense of belonging within the community 

## **Event/activity/project name: Easter Crafting** 

Art workshops on decorating Easter eggs and eggshells – one of the Polish Christian tradition. We acquainted with the history, meaning and types of Easter eggs and various techniques for making them. We hosted children with parents mostly from Polish community, but we have pleasure to share this tradition with local community members also. Together about 20 people.

## **Event/activity/project name: Mother’s Day celebration in Aid of Ukrainian Mothers (co-hosting)** 

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): A heartfelt event honoring mothers while supporting those in need. All proceeds go towards assisting Ukrainian mothers affected by current challenges.

## **Event name: Yoga Classes** 

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): The classes are tailored to the needs and capabilities of members. They do not require participants to be in good physical condition or stretch - the exercises take place in a calm atmosphere, and their implementation is not difficult. The activity significantly improves mood and increases vitality. Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): Weekend filled with festivities, honoring Her Majesty's 70 years of service. Open to all, it promises joyous gatherings, memorable activities, and a united spirit to mark this historic milestone in our nation's history." 



## **Event/activity/project name: Kupala Night on the beach** 

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): traditional activities like wreath making and releasing them into the water, along with a contest for the most beautiful wreath. Optional volleyball tournament, mini workshops on White Singing, and twilight BBQ with music. Fun for all ages! We gathered around 90 guests during all day event.

Event description: Some members of the "Young at Heart" group took part live and watched on TV I organised meet up, a funeral service was held at Westminster Abbey, followed by a procession to Wellington Arch

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): BOSKINO is a celebration of modern Polish cinema brought right to the heart of Boscombe; showcasing films that speak to the Polish experience.

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): event organized for family bonding. Purpose: fostering creativity, teamwork, and laughter. Attendance: All family members, including children and adults, participated. Outcome: Enhanced communication skills, strengthened familial bonds, and joyous memories created through collaborative drawing and guessing. Overall, the event facilitated quality time spent together and promoted mutual understanding and appreciation among family members.

## **Event/activity/project name: All Saints' Day** 

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): celebrated on November 1st, is a Polish tradition where cemeteries transform into seas of flowers illuminated by candlelight. As per custom, we visited nearby cemeteries, lighting candles at Polish graves to honor the departed. This annual event fosters community spirit, remembrance, and reverence for loved ones who have passed.

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): The Polish Independence Lunch celebrated Polish Independence Day with the local Polish community. Attendees wore Polish accents, enjoyed a meal together, and participated in a historical knowledge competition about Poland's independence. Discounts were offered on all dishes, and participants had the chance to win Polish board games. Approximately 15 people participated in this engaging and festive event.

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): Supporting the Polish football team in elimination to the group in 2020 UEFA EURO 2020 tournament. Together with the restaurant, and management, we organised space assigned for Polish football fans, about 10 tables with national Polish flags and face painting. hosted about 30 members of the Polish community. 

## **Event/activity/project name: Andrzejki 2022 – St. Andrew Day celebration** 

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): Traditional Polish Fortune-Telling event celebrated every 29th of November according to the Catholic calendar. Andrzejki ritual has a nonChristian background and is tightly connected to the pagan calendar and yearly rites. During this event we manage to grain about 20 people.

The purpose is to encourage artistic expression and festive joy among attendees. The event typically attracts families, schools, and community groups. The outcome includes the creation of unique, handmade cards that spread cheer and warmth during the holiday season.

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): Ukrainian Support Aid Together Day brings together people from all backgrounds in Dorset for a day of connection and support. With live music, activities for children, informative seminars on mental health and wellbeing, and valuable advice on various topics like government support and legal matters, it aims to foster understanding and solidarity. Organized by World of Love Festival in partnership with Dorset Ukrainian Community, it's a space to learn, share, and strengthen community bonds.

Event description (purpose, attendance, outcome etc.): We supported an event for women with Polish backgrounds organised by Balneo Lifestyle. This event included in program prelections about Endometriosis, basics of self-defense, and ecological cosmetics. 

## **Future Plans** 

The charity plans to continue the activities outlined above in the forthcoming years subject to satisfactory outcomes from the Polish and local community. 

## Responsibilities of Management Committee 

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the annual report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
