TRUSTEES' REPORT:
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31st DECEMBER 2023.
The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023 Governing document.
4TheChildren is a UK registered Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) established in 2016. 4TC is a children's charity. 4TC seeks to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development programmes in the UK, Africa and around the World through whatever means the trustees see fit. 4TC is primarily concerned with the safety, welfare and human rights of children. By collaborating with local communities & schools through relief and development programmes. 4TC works wherever the need is greatest, irrespective of color, creed, status or religion.
We support local organisations in the UK that are best placed to understand local needs. We also provide help when there is a crisis abroad through other NGO's.
The support we provide varies according to the needs of the child/ children and their families. This support typically includes, breakfast/ lunch/ dinner meals, school uniform support, shoes and clothing, winter-wear, bedding, white-goods, toys, etc.
We also sponsor a local football team. As well as this we support local projects when we can. In Africa we have an on-going project called 4TheChildren of Gambia, where we are supporting a Gambian orphanage and school that houses 97 orphan and single-parent children. As well as this we have a continuing aid program to help the Syrian refugees in Europe, particularly in France.
4TheChildren's Aims & Objectives:
4TC works towards attaining the following 3 objectives which are very highly sought after by all members of staff both here in the UK and abroad.
Objective 1
The relief of children in poverty, hardship, distress and sickness anywhere in the world, by the provision of food, clothing, sanitation, clean drinking water & education.
Objective 2
The advancement of education of those children in need and orphans anywhere in the world by the provision of training centers, workshops and educational establishments.
Objective 3
To actively explore new means of support for underprivileged children in the UK thus allowing them an equal chance of performing well at school and potentially breaking the cycle of poverty.
Our main focus is on refugee children and underprivileged children from low-income families. Additionally, we aim to provide a level of support for their families. However, we also seek to help children internationally where aid and relief is most needed.
Appointment of trustees.
New trustees are nominated by members of the board of trustees & general members of the charity. They are then interviewed and appointed in positions according to their skill set and knowledge to contribute to the charity.
Trustee induction & training
The new trustees are given full training & briefed on their legal obligations under charity laws and regulations; the committee and decision making process; the recent financial performance and the future plans and objectives of the charity.
Organisation
The board of trustees and members and volunteers administer the charity.
Risk management policy
All significant activities undertaken are subject to a risk review as part of the initial project assessment and implementation.
Major risks are identified and ranked in terms of their potential impact and likelihood of occurrence.
Major risks are those that will have a significant effect on operational performance, achievement of the charity's aims and objectives and meeting
the expectations of its beneficiaries, and supporters. The trustees, on an on-going basis, review these risks and ensure sufficient systems are in place.
Objectives of the charity, principal activities & organisation of our work
The charity's objectives and its principal activity continues to be that of providing relief to the suffering of victims of poverty, social injustice and natural disasters and to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged children in communities through education, health and social development. The charity continues to explore new ways of improving the conditions of children.
The charity works with local school teachers to identify and reach out to the most vulnerable and underprivileged children in the local community, this includes childrefugees from broken backgrounds.
The charity is organised so that the trustees meet regularly to manage its affairs. There are trustees and members & volunteers in the management, who manage the day-today administration of the charity and organise fundraising initiatives.
The programmes that were planned at the start of the year were implemented throughout the year, and the overall performance and donation collections were decreased this year as a result of the charity shop's closure and the corona virus and the effect of the world economy.
The trustees and volunteers made every effort to improve in terms of completing our initiatives on schedule and within the budget limits set for each project. The 4TC intends to keep running its current programs.
All these efforts were only possible because of the dedication and hard work of our trustees, members, and volunteers, as well as their financial contributions to assist the charity in its current project. This was due to the charity's low funding and the majority of donations being in kind from the public and businesses.
Charity projects conducted through collection of in-kind donations from the public and Business consist of tin food, dry food and clothing, footwear, etc.
Volunteers check and package donated items after cleaning and checking every item and donating to needy homeless, needy families, etc.
We attempted to sell some of the in-kind items in order to raise funding for some of the charity initiatives.
Some of the projects were funded entirely through in-kind donations. And other projects have been done through financial aid from friends and families and volunteers when possible.
We have attempted to offer humanitarian programs in accordance with donor requests and causes that they believe require the most assistance.
4thechildren had to close the charity shop in Manchester in January 2018 due to the property being derelict and the charity being unable to pay for repairs and renovations. Since that time, the charity has been waiting for a doner shop / office to operate from.
The charity shop was the main source of revenue for the charity efforts during the time we were there. However, after we closed, donations plummeted dramatically, and we moved to an industrial estate unit where we only received in-kind gifts and trustees and volunteers help to sort out, clean and distribute to the needy.
Since we have tried to look for any donated promises to reopen the charity shop but without any luck.
In 2022 - 2023 has placed enormous pressure on the charity in general due to the slowdown of the economy most of the donations were in-kind as were the projects.
During the Christmas season of 2023, 4TheChildren volunteers made a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable children and their families. We gathered and presented gifts to
needy local youngsters, children from the neighboring areas of the local community.
Helping the homeless.
In 2023 4TC donated some food parcels, ready meals, winter goods, winter clothing, blankets, footwear, and food were distributed to some of the needy & homeless.
In addition, 4TC distributed needed goods to help some of low-income families to help them with their daily life. All these projects have been completed through in-kind donations.
Future projects in the United Kingdom:
UK
4TC has a number of new projects planned for the coming year that we hope will have a good impact on a child's school performance.
Sponsorship by helping with some school meals, when possible, Breakfast Club, and assistance with school uniforms and shoes are just a few of the projects.
Some of these projects In-kind donations will be used for these types of programs to help the most needy children.
Support for the child's families’ living conditions, such as a new mattress and beddings, as well as our ongoing sponsorship of the local children's football club and other local children's activities.
A brief list of activities completed during the course of the year is as follows:
In 2016 4TheChildren team took over an orphanage in the Gambia and raised funds from friends and family.
4TC was able to supply basic necessities such as food and basic education. Due to a lack of funding, this assistance is quite modest, but at least the children are not going to bed hungry.
The youngsters live in a mud shelter with only two spacious halls in which to play. The youngsters eat and sleep in the same hall, which has no sanitation, and they attend school there as well.
4TheChildren has been able to offer this basic home food, and education for the children thanks to the wonderful donations of our family and friends.
In The Gambia, we are helping orphans and single-parent children for basic education, as well as supporting them with monthly food subsidies when it's possible.
In The Gambia, 4TC organised Qurbani that served the children and their families, as well as distributing food gifts to other needy children in the village. Meat, rice, and flour were included in the food packages.
Future Gambia projects include:
The orphanage's food program will be continued to the best of the charity's capacity and funds when possible.
4thechildren future prospects.
4TC will attempt to expand and secure finance for existing and new projects by building on its present capacity.
We will continue to focus entirely on child welfare issues, and we will endeavor to enlist the help of our existing contributors and raise awareness about these kinds of programs.
Due to the present economy's financial climate which has impacted our revenue streams for critical initiatives, we will be searching for alternate funding sources in the future.
Year-end financial analysis
Financial Activities are reported in the 2023 financial statement, We intend to work to enhance these numbers in the next few years if possible.
Future Investment Capabilities.
The trustees have the power to invest in such assets as they see fit according to the charities law in England and Wales.
Occasionally, the charity must respond very swiftly to specific catastrophes, emergencies or tragedies. The charity keeps all of its funds in readily accessible bank accounts and has no desire to invest in short-term deposits or real estate.
4Thechildren are considering opening a charity shop in order to gather donations and to be financially able to complete the demanding and potential new projects.
Reserves Policy in the Future.
When possible, the trustees have defined the future level of reserves that the organisation should have. These are required to bridge the gap between help and emergency spending and the receiving of resources and donations, which are typically increased following disasters or emergencies.
Statement of trustees' responsibilities.
The trustees are required by law to prepare financial statements for each financial year, which give a true and fair view of the financial activities of the charity and of its financial position at the end of that year. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:
-
Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
-
Make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
State whether the policies adopted are in accordance with the Charity Commission requirement.
Accounting standards and statements of recommended practice, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
-
Prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to assume that the charity will continue in operation.
-
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time that the financial statements comply with the Charity (Accounts and Audit) Regulation 1995.
