| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | NWTCA is a charitable, cultural, educational non-profit organisation dedicated to increase, promote, foster friendship, public knowledge and understanding of the Turkish culture and language. NWTCA organises community events and activities where people of all ages and nationalities can come together to experience Turkish culture through Turkish music, festivals, dance, food and art. NWTCA plays an integral role in bringing the Turkish-British community together in the North West of England. One of the main services we offer is "community language teaching" of Turkish for children and adults. This has enabled us to offer a wider range of classes and activities for people of Turkish origin or people with some kind of Turkish connection. Some children who have attended our classes could not previously speak a word of Turkish, now they have mastered the basics and have a sense of their culture and background-our weekend sessions are particularly valued by single parents whose children live with primary carers with no knowledge of Turkish. As children move through study modules and pass progress tests included in the materials, they develop a sense of academic achievement & personal achievement independent of more formal language learning. The Turkish lessons we provide, also serve as a social hub for the Turkish community as we have a waiting area for parents to socialise when they wait for their children. |
We began the new academic year on 29/09/24 and our weekly lessons started face to face and online. We clearly see the advancement in our student’s learning of Turkish language and culture. The students build strong friendships and take part in our friendly art and writing contests and workshops as well. We have supported our students and their families by offering the online Turkish lessons for free of charge. The children kept their cameras off during the lessons and the lessons have not been recorded to stay in line with Data protection regulations. Children and adults develop a sense of citizenship, not only as part of discovering their Turkish identity but also as a result of finding a valued place as a bicultural individual within an inclusive British society. Our volunteers developed skillsets that helped them to raise their employability and boosted their confidence. 21/04/24 8[th] - 23rd April Children’s festival at Imamoglu Restaurant with art exhibition by children themed as The children of the world On this day, we celebrate the children of the world, and their achievements. The children prepared poems, songs, and dances, the community came together to celebrate this special national day with their families. Our Consul General also attended the day. 19th May 2024 Manchester Turkish Classical Music Choir concert at Parrs Wood Road Church for the centenary of Turkish Republic and 19th May The Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day At this event we were able to showcase our repertoire of Classical Turkish music for a mixed audience of Turkish and British people. Around 150 people attended this event, and we received amazing feedback.

The play provided a unique cultural and educational experience, it introduced children’ theatre in Turkish language to families in Manchester for the first time, strengthening cultural connection, representation and pride, while offering a joyful theatre experience to Turkish speaking families. It continues to receive highly positive feedback; the community would like us to produce another play. October 2024 - Start of Turkish school until July We have 4 classes for children and 1 class for adults. In adult class we have students who want to learn the Turkish language.
